Tonight turned out a little crazier than I expected…but it happens.
So today at work, I started feeling really sick - achy, kinda hot. My back was killing me! 11pm finally came around and I figured I’d stop at Walmart to pick up some medicine and then just go to bed. I got to the Wadsworth (OH) location around 11 45 and I was going down the parking lot when I noticed 4 police cars and an ambulance outside the doors. As I got closer I thought to myself, which way do I want to go to park? There were an equal amount of cars on either side of the aisle, and I considered going right so when I walked out, I’d already be on the driver’s side. But I was like fuck it, and I went left and parked. (This is an important detail for later.)
I walked up to the doors thinking someone probably fell or had a panic attack or something lame. They manually opened the doors and I asked if they were open because I saw a group of people standing there, and I was confused. The woman said yes, so I went in and was like whatever. I walked toward the pharmacy and looked over at the customer service area. I noticed another group and a guy sitting on a stretcher with his head wrapped. Again I didn’t think much of it.
I got my stuff and went to check out. I asked the cashier what happened, and she said somebody got shot in the head in the parking lot! I was like…WTF?! She said it barely grazed his head so he was ok. I then put 2 and 2 together and the stretcher made sense. I finished and joined the group by the entrance and quickly figured out they weren’t letting anyone leave. I sat down on a pallet and did the only logical thing one would do in this situation - start texting everyone! LOL! So I texted a few people and my buddy called me, so I talked to him for a few minutes.
I snapped a quick pic with my phone while I was sitting on the pallet. Doesn’t show much at all, but it IS from the incident so at least I got something.
A minute or so after I got off the phone with him I heard a cop come back in the store and ask who drives a black Honda. I was like…OMG…seriously? Hahahaha! I got up and said that’s mine and he asked if I would please move my car, because I had parked right in the middle of the crime scene. I laughed and asked if I could just leave, considering I wasn’t present when the shooting occured. He said that was fine and to just walk out to where the police officers were. OF COURSE ROCKING MY G2IC HOODIE!
As I was walking to the car I was thinking about taking a picture with my phone, god I wish I would have, but I didn’t want the cops freaking out on me. I was laughing to myself because of my parking decision earlier - if you recall I really wanted to turn right to park but instead for some reason decided to go left, and apparently park right over where the guy got shot! Go me! Err…
The police outside asked if it was my car, I said yes and that I was leaving. They asked if I had seen anyone there when I parked, and I said no. At this point I realized they had not caught whoever shot the guy, and he really could have been standing there when I parked…TALK ABOUT CREEPY!! Gives me the chills! So I got in and left. I was the only one allowed to leave due to parking there, kinda funny.
So while exciting and definitely not something that happens everyday, it wasn’t as exciting as it could have been, since the shooting happened right before I got there. It’s amusing to me that I’m wearing my hoodie with an Integra on the back of it, and my car comes to the attention of everyone. Just kinda cool I guess, to be in the middle of something that crazy.
But looking back, as I was parking, how could I have known I was parking right where I guy had just got shot in the head? As I got out of the car, I never guessed the shooter could’ve been standing RIGHT THERE. It’s creepy, and kinda funny. Definitely will always be a cool story to tell.
So yeah…no blood or anything on the Integra LOL
