Also check the seal on the pressure vents that are under the rear bumper cover.
Yesterday morning I noticed half my driver side tail light filled with rain water. opened up the trunk and just that side had a little puddle but I could clearly see the water coming in from the tail light area.
I read on here a while back to make your own tail light gaskets out of weather stripping or foam insulation. I went to OSH (Home Improvement Store) yesterday and got a roll of high density foam weather stripping, it’s basically the same material as the OEM gasket. I took off the old gasket and lined the tail light with this product last night, I have yet to find out if it leaks or not but I’ll let you know if this something you might want to do.
I just scored a pair of flawless tail lights off a guy locally & got the gaskets today, but Delray Acura sent me the gaskets for a 94-01 teg so I have to ship em back. Checked my order and it said 33503-SK7-A01 but they sent me 33503-ST7-A01 lol.
gonna do the bleach thing and get rid of the pink lines before I install these & figure I’ll know if these are leaky or not when I do that. Looks like I’ll be dealing with the water for a few more days at least. but hey that is what shop towels are good for haha
As far as the flooded tail light I drilled a couple tiny holes in the corner to allow the water to drain out. that lens assembly has cracks anyways so I didn’t care about taking a drill to it.
Also found a tiny bit of moisture on the passenger floor pan in the front corner so I’ll have to chase that down and plug it too.
on an up note I had Jiffy Lube do my oil change since weather is crap and had em change my transmission oil and made sure they used Honda MTF. they wanted to follow factory recommendation and use 10W-30 I said hell no put the Honda stuff in!
I’m stoked to report my 5th gear grind is pretty much gone. Only happens when I hot rod it past 4-4500k RPM on the freeway…
soon as I get back from my chicago trip I’ll drop it at the body shop to get the screw holes and few little dents taken care of, get those accord front & rear lips installed & EK skirts modified and mounted and be ready for paint as soon as rainy season lets up…
Pressure vents? not familiar with what those would look like
I think this means the air exit vent, one on each side near rear/bottom of trunk, same area as where the drain hoses exit the car on either side. Basically, there are 5 openings in the hatch/trunk area. Two roof drains. One electric antenna drain. Two air vents. When the heater blows hot air into the car (or in California, when the A/C blows cold air into the car), and all doors/windows are closed, the air has to exit someplace.
In the Midwest, the air just makes its way out through the numerous rust-through spots on the car, but car companies thoughtfully decided to provide the same feature to everyone else fresh from the factory…
Thanks bud! I know what ya mean about midwest & rust… I remember growing up my Dad was stoked when a car made it to 100k miles before it rusted to pieces haha. GOtta love all the damn salt they throw down, allthough it doesn’t seem to snow quite as bad as it did 20-30 years ago…
you are welcome… was thinking about driving my car to Arizona and leaving it there for the winter… bit concerned about being stopped at the border tho, I hear they take a dim view of us bringing all that salt down on the undercarriage… saw a state trooper pull over an SUV in Aricona once, and then walk around the car with a mirror on a stick… and all I can think of is, my God, is this how they look for salt and rust here??
Maybe we should import engines from the midwest, and shells from CA, and assemble them someplace half way!

dude make sure you have an alarm if you come to az my da got stolen
dude make sure you have an alarm if you come to az my da got stolen :(
Sorry, and, Thx for the heads up. but it is the same everywhere… sad. A civic nearby got stolen, it was so old the guy who had it was about to donate it to some charity… I heard had to be on a truck b/c the Civic had no battery in it at the time… pathetic.
believe me it isn’t any better out here either… Most integras for sale all have salvaged titles from having been stolen at least 1 time LOL… Not that it is funny r anything, but they definitely are a highly stolen car…
hahaha that would be rad if these cars held any real value over 2 grand.
so today I did my tail light replacement. Was wayyy easy. As suspected the gaskets were shot and the driver side part of the gasket was completely gone explaining why the lens was filling with water. I also found the frame was smashed in and bent it back. it had a bunch of surface rust and the fatory paint was all chipped. 20 minutes with a hammer and some gentle tapping to straighten it out it was ready for a quick coating of rust inhibiting paint to prevent future rusting back there.
after bending it back I sanded the shit out of it to get rid of the rust and chipped paint then hit it with some Krylon rust inhibiting spray paint… also determined the color I’ll be painting the car based on the rattle can color which was “Cardinal Red” much richer red tone that the factory Rio Red color… I liked it alot after seein it on the car. Might do that with a pair of BLack race stripes down the center. to add contrast and flow with my red/black theme.
got the new tails installed with the pink lines bleached out… here is the finished product. Didn’t care about the overspray considering it is all going to be sanded, primered and repainted in the next 6 months. Would rather have overspray than exposed metal
Checked drainiage from the sun roof and all was well there. Didn’t look like water was coming in the vents mentioned above. so at this point my fingers are crossed as I wait for the next storm to hit so I can hopefully see a nice dry trunk LOL.
after my trip to chicago in a week I’ll be dropping it at the body shop to get all the dings and screw holes taken care of and then start setting aside for the paint job.
Yeah, those vents pictured. Its to release pressure in the car when closing the hatch and doors.
Those taillights are lookin nice, I’ve been thinking about getting a set to swap out every once in a while haha.

yeah only drawback to bleaching them is it causes the bulb sockets to corrode if you aren’t careful or allow them to completely dry out… I was almost about to disassemble my old ones to swap wiring harnesses cause my old lights were immaculate inside, but after seeing they worked fine I say to hell with it. slapped some bulb grease on em and called it a day
oh boy… just found a 91 LS on the side of the road… super clean body with original paint… clean interior… 305K miles on the odometer… 5 Speed manual. looks like it may have been backed into a pole 1 time, as there is chipped paint on the bumper… Tags are from 09… if I can grab that thing for under a grand… I might be bringing home a stray LOL…
I am hoping this thing is stock under the hood… while I continue to rice out my GS I’d love to have a plain jane OEM looking DA9 also. BBest of both worlds sorta thing
Worst case I have a chick friend who really wants to get an integra and I told her she should get a DA… either way this teg is gonna land itself close to my circle so it is never out of my reach LOL…
UPDATE lady is asking for 1900 OBO… not going to spring that right now Oh Well… if anyone in the bay area is looking for a super clean teggy let me know and I’ll pass the lady’s number along.
and back to my teg… I am glad to report that the new tail lights and gaskets have resolved my leak issue and after raining all night I have no water in the tail lights or trunk
well after a 10 day vacation in Chicago visiting family I returned to find heavy condensation all over the inside of the car :argh:
further inspection showed a bunch of water in the corners of the trunk area… looks like I still have some investigating to do… namely the pressure vents. grrr…
today I replaced the shitty old Pyle speakers I had with some Polk Audio DB 6501 component speakers in front and for the rear deck. My C-pillar molding already had holes for the tweeters drilled in em by a previous owner so it made sense.
talk about a difference in sound!!! OMG next week getting the small triangle windows re tinted (only 1 is currently) and going to shoot for a trip to the body shop beginning of February to get the body work started
Hey man thought I’d pop on over to your thread and say that things are looking good. Early on you mentioned the weather stripping idea. I tried this…about 3 months ago and it didn’t work for me. I went overkill on the weather stripping hoping to stop the leaking tail lights for good, but it looks like I’m going to shell out for a new set of gaskets myself. I will probably end up bleach the tail lights while I do that as well. I’ve got a water leak back there too as well as the infamous one coming from the passenger side floor board. Found that out the hard way when service manual started showing signs of being wet on the ends.
