My Dead Pedal Broke

As the title says… My dead pedal just broke off! I can actually see daylight thru the two little holes. Is there any way to re-install them without having to weld them?

My dead pedal broke many many years ago, before we had acquired a welder. I found a bolt, jb welded it to the dead pedal and then used a nut and fender washer to secure it from inside the wheel well.

I don’t have any pics of it installed, or from the wheel well, but I just recently sold it so I had pics of the actual dead pedal and the bolt I jb welded in place.

I could have tried to jb weld the bolt to the car but I was doing this by myself and it was easier to apply the jb weld to the dead pedal, put it in place, tighten up all hardware, and let the weld dry. If I had put the jb weld and bolt on the body of the car it wouldn’t have stayed in place very easily while I was trying to mount the dead pedal.

Thank You So Much Sir… Home Depot Here I Come.

I did the same thing when mine broke. Works very well. It sucks becuase when it happens its not the hardware or the dead pedal failing, its actually the bolts ripping holes of the unibody out.

Funny thing is my new carpet should arrive in a few days and I was actually wondering how I would go around it to install, but now I guess I don’t have to.

yep. i did the same . just bolted the screw and washer on the top hole. junk yard and find one and take it off. finding the hole for top one is pretty easy just use a screw driver and mark the hole from the inside fender well and bolt it up. gl

My dead pedal broke off in 2005 (!), and master procrastinator that I am I still haven’t put it back on, but I plan to someday! At that time, I printed off a brilliant thread here that told exactly how to do so. I found the thread, but the photos are dead now. But you can probably figure out the process from the text. so the bolts for the dead pedal are out side of car in wheel well??-im trying to get my dead pedal off for carpet removal, im sure its been covered and this aint my first rodeo but i can find them

There are two studs which are [welded] to the floor of the car, the dead pedal slips over those bolts and then you put a nut onto the studs to secure the dead pedal in place. If you look at the first photo I posted above that is what the dead pedal looks like when you remove the “anti-slip” front panel of the pedal (where your foot actually goes). Remove that piece (pry it out w/ a screwdriver) then you can access the two nuts with a socket and ratchet. IIRC they’re 10mm.

i half assed mine since i still cant figure out the science behinde it, i suck…

So I went to tighten mine today and the studs completely broke off. Daylight through the holes. I am looking at the below diagram right? I can’t buy replacement studs? Just the bolts?

I guess it’s onto what Colin said to do if that is the case.

You cannot buy the studs. Contrary to my incorrect comment above, the studs are part of the chassis - or at least welded to it. They aren’t removable without grinding/drilling out the welds, and conversely you couldn’t install a new one without welding it on. The part in the picture that you can purchase is the nut. If I had to do this now I’d weld in a new stud since I have a welder but at the time I didn’t so I came up with the work around I talked about before.

What a stupid design, I guess it’s a good thing I needed to go see my welder this week anyways.

How did your fix hold up when you did it?
