Last night, some local VW drivers and I went out to a track. It’s a recently paved 1/3mile oval track that has been used for races for the past few years. They’re not opening this year, so the owner opened it up for us to just play around. I’ve never been on anything close to a race track before, so this was a totally new experience for me. My car handled it REALLY well and I can’t wait to go again and work on my line and driving skills.

That looks like a ton of fun. If I had a track like that available nearby I would go broke on gas and tires.
Did you guys keep track of lap times and compare it to each other? I’m curious to see how well your car stacks up against a modded VW.
We didn’t keep track and I only ran maybe a dozen laps. But I was TONS faster then all the modded 1.8Ts that ran. I could carry way more speed into the corners (much lighter and better brakes) and my car is built for the track. They would all blow the doors off of me in a straight line, but what’s the fun of that? LOL
We will be going back this weekend for some more practice and then doing some solo time trials in front of a crowd on Sunday. I’ll be running with a caged MKII Jetta 2.0 8valve that might be able to stick closer to me, so I’ll have to get some more videos.
Here’s a quick video I threw together that shows a few laps from some of the dubs. The black GTI Golf is chipped, FMIC, bigger downpipe, BOV etc. and the two Jettas are both chip tuned 1.8Ts.
