I’m likin the build!
@acura_madness I will be posting pics of the ball joints soon. Gotta buy a hacksaw and take out my remaining bushings the old fashion way.
@derek21 thanks man. Its been a long time coming. Hopefully it will be on the road within a month. I keep running into small kinks that need to be worked out.
Not much to see, looks just like it does in the box but in the knuckle instead, lol. I changed too much stuff on my car at once to give any kind of review on the ball joints by themselves.
Hopefully all of my parts will be that clean. Just gotta get enough Brake Kleen to do it.
I post pics frequently on Instagram if anyone wants to follow my progress on there as well - @db2_medic
So the ball joints went in. Not smoothly but they are in. The best way I found to get them in was to dremel the inside sleeve on the spindle just enough to a “polished” finish and then use a small ball peen or dead blow hammer to get them in. As for the snap ring, two pair of vice grips and muscle.
A little trick for ya next time. Put the ball joints in the freezer, take’em out when they’re cold cold, heat up the knuckles with a torch (doesn’t have to be red hot or anything. They slip right in :). Same for wheel bearings (which I would recommend you do those if you haven’t)
@ Colon thanks for the pics of it i am considering of doing this, how does it feel when riding it.
@ GAmedic yea thats what i did when i got those cheap ones i gave it three hard shots with a hammer and went in.
@ mr penny i will have to try that when i order these.
Whats the purpose of those lower ball joints?
It takes more than brakleen. I’d suggest you skip the brakleen and just use your standard degreaser (I like Simple Green) with a bunch of elbow grease (cheap plastic, brass, and steel bristle brushes are available at hardware stores and Harbor Freight). And it should also be pretty obvious from my pics that mine are not the stock finish, I painted them after I cleaned them.

I’m a person, not an internal organ thank you very much. As previously stated in my post I can’t give any feedback because too many parts were changed at the same time (all new Hardrace bushings, PCI spherical RTA’s, OEM wheel bearings, wheel spacers, alignment…etc).
The concept is that you can retain the same (or more similar) LCA angle even with the car being lowered. Google it, there’s tons of info out there about what the purpose is. Whether or not it has a real world benefit is definitely up for debate, you’re gonna get a lot of different opinions and it’s hard to decipher what is correct. Especially since everyone’s setup is different.
Colin, I need to go ahead and replace my RTA bushings. I was just going to use the Energy Suspension ones since I am using their master kit but thanks to you I may go with those PCI pieces.
Mrpenny, hopefully there will not be a next time for me. If there is, I am ordering M Factory ball joints. Also, since the car is torn apart now I will be replacing the wheel bearings since I need to install my extended studs anyways.
This is gonna end up being a slow build. Im becoming more and more patient and realizing that while its apart I might as well replace damn near everything.
I hear ya. How come you’d get Mfactory’s if there was a next time? And if you haven’t gotten the bearings yet, Propartsusa is the cheapest place I can find anywhere to get OEM Koyo bearings. http://store.propartsusa.com/koyo_usa/koyo_wheel_bearings/44300_sf1_008/i-545163.aspx Bought from them a couple times, and they’re great to deal with!
I would buy the MFactory pieces due to the zerk fittings and being able to maintain them easier. I have a huge list of parts at home that need to be ordered. I will be ordering most of the little stuff like bearings and fluids this payday. Im not expecting the track car to be on the road no sooner than after the first of the year.
Damn…MSRP of $113 and price of $41. Cant beat that!
I would only suggest the PCI (or any spherical RTA) for a track only car. They are not comfortable. The ride will be noticeably stiffer and noise is greatly increased. If you still have full interior and/or softer suspension I’m sure this effect would be diminished somewhat (my car is gutted with stiff suspension and tires) but I still don’t see the point on something you just drive for fun on weekends and especially not something you daily drive. OEM, Mugen, or Hardrace are plenty good.
Mrpenny, thank you for posting that link! I need 4 wheel bearings and just quoted them last week from oemacuraparts at about $360 for the 4. You just saved me $180! Glad I waited to place my order!
Nice build man…it’s really coming along. Also a sincere thanks for keeping another DB2 alive.
I was really surprised at how nice those lower ball joints looked after they were installed. I was thinking wtf? Does this guy own a velvet hammer or something? I marred the hell out of mine pressing them in with a professional Snap-On kit. Good stuff with the freezer trick…I cant say I’ve ever heard of that one before.

lol, I had to laugh at the .45 pistol sitting there next to the dremel and black gloves…looks like something from the movie ‘Hostel’.

I’m the same way. I’d rather wait to do all right then fix one thing and have to go back.
Yea the crazy thing is they’ve been that same price for a couple years now. All the honda parts site have them listed at $90 a piece, so at $41 it’s a steal! They must of bought a lot to be able to cut the price down like that, lol
Cool man, no problem. I found the link randomly through one of the forums, and have been sharing it since. Pass it on!
Smit- Yea BLKACK1 showed me that one years ago. Comes in handy
That would be my gen4 G29 10mm lol. It was getting in the way when I was working on the car.
As for the RTA bushings, I am ordering the Energy Suspension pieces. I looked into them and since it will see occasional track use I wont need them.
And as for the ball joints, they look worse in person but they will be functional. Dont need anything on this car to be pretty
You were wearing a gun while working on the car?
That was probably one of the days I went to the parts store and came straight back to work on the car. I cant remember.
