i will be doing a full size spare setup in the trunk.
i still have to use rouge and a buffing wheel to bring them to the final mirror finish before i clear coat them. im going to use vht high temp clear on them as i hear it wont run or haze up.
the 90 project will be going under the knife soon within the next week as long as i can get my audi finished. ill be building a 6 pt roll cage and painting it the same color as the wheels.
thanks! i hit the face and lip today with some red rouge and an angle grinder. ill post pics on monday. mirror finish now makes the previous pics look dull.
Finish them with white rouge if you have the means, it leaves a much better shine than red/brown/green rouge.
And, ANY paint will run if you put it on too thick… That being said, VHT do make awesome products. Definitely keep us posted on the results, I think they will look awesome.
i used the red for a rough cut, as there was still a little bit of threading from the wet sanding, but ill use the white for a filnal cut.
has anyone heard of or used the product called masters polish “sealer” my professor is absolutly against clearing anything thats been hand polished. hes a machinest by trade and says that hes used this with amazing results, as in he didnt have to re-polish for about 2 years.
I’ve never used it before, but he has a valid point… Spraying clear on something that’s polished will make it very likely to peel. Paint/primer/clear all need a more rough surface to adhere to, the scratches help the paint and stuff stick better, they ‘grip’ the scratches. So trying to clear or paint something that is polished is difficult because the paint has nothing to grip to.
i was also weighing the idea of powdercoating the wheels with a clear, but i dont want to risk losing any of the mirror finish ive put the time into to get, also for the price i think going with the polish/sealer is a better idea, partly because the powdercoating will cost 5x more than the wheels haha.
