My progress so far. .

Time to clean out my K&N filter too lol

Small setback after the oil change. I decided to replace the plugs and got a surprise of oil in the first two tubes. About half inch in the first and and inch in the second. None in the other two. The oil was above the threads. So it came from the head gasket or the valve cover o rings. I may have not changed the rings when I changed cover gasket two years ago. The oil was either from leaking over time, or I filled it too fast and it leaked from the rings. I decided to change out the gasket and rings. The felpro ones I bought are much thicker. So I think the old rings were letting oil in.

Bought a boroscope to see how much oil spilled into the cylinder. Luckily only the second one has a bit. I sprayed some engine storage into it to dilute a bit. When I get the rest of the car together I’ll turn the engine a few times to make it spray out l, with towels held over the hole.

Added new ground cables

Nice, I always toque down the valve cover bolts to spec and no more leaks inside the tube, it’s very common issue

Yeah when I loosened them I felt they weren’t that tight. But also the new orings are about 1mm thicker and snug in their place. The old ones are not as soft. I have a feeling I only changed the outer gasket last time. So it would mean they were possibly the original ones. In any case, I’ve torqued the new stuff to spec at 7lb.

Nice , now ready for the streets

Almost. Today, drained and filled the coolant, put the shift linkage back together. I decided to change the front stabilizer bar bushings, so the first clamp is off and paint is drying on that, and tomorrow will take off other one and clean it up. By tomorrow night, should be ready to start. Need to start it to get the air out of PS lines and air out of coolant pipes. Hopefully by end of week I’ll have everything ready for a first drive in 1.5 years.

A little snug, but bent the center bar enough so they won’t touch.

No more bitch pin.

Nice and clean.

Up close of shift linkage.

Nice planing to install my too with the k tune shifter

Note to self, do not touch! Project for next year.

New battery terminal.

Car is finally down off the jack after 1.5 years.

To do:
I have a rattle under the car. Sounds like a shield rattle but deeper. So might be header touching the center cross-member brace. Need to get under car to check.
Major cleaning in and out.
Even after putting in a new starter, I still have issues sometimes. When I first tried to start it, it didn’t go, even though the battery voltage was good and wasn’t dropping. I combined it with a charger and it activated. I have a feeling I have a resistance drop in the main starter wire to the starter. I’ll test for it, but likely I’ll change the cables anyways since they are kind of short at the terminal and old. I cleaned the corrosion at the battery side, but if there is corrosion somewhere along the wire it can be an issue. Pretty sure it’s not the relay, since it sounds like it activates and the starter tries to move but can’t, like the voltage is too low to move it.

I think I found the source of the rattle. When on the quickjack I have to have the mudflaps off, and haven’t put them back on yet. Will do a drive with the wheel liner taped to body to see if that’s the issue. And it reminded me that my passenger liner is torn so I ordered a new set from Ebay. Will do product review when I get them.
