Uhm, if your problem is a leaky coolant hose then I suggest you replace that. Chances are you have other coolant hoses on the way out as well since your car is pretty old. I had the exact same thing happen with a hose in my car recently – white smoke and all. I replaced that hose before I moved the car again. I actually predicted this coolant hose bursting on me just hours before it actually did! The rest aren’t in nearly as bad of shape, but they’re definitely very bad. The upper and lower radiator hoses make cracking sounds when I squeeze them and they feel far too soft. I’ve even spotted a tear in the threading on the upper hose, though the rubber is still keeping everything in.
My current plan is to drain the radiator, replace all the hoses, flush the entire cooling system with distilled water (I think that’s what is supposed to be used), and refill with 50/50 premixed coolant. The owner’s manual for the car is pretty specific about the coolant mixture – it says that too much water in the system could cause the radiator to rust. I’d advise you to do the same.
this thread is ages old. probably missed that it was from 2006
I Just happen to have a brand new coil sitting on my desk. bought it for my old distributor @ O’Reillys. well the one I bought crapped out, so I replaced the entire distributor, and was given a replacement coil under warranty. so now I have a brand new coil with no use for it.
here’s my warning on buying a coil tho… they are fussy and others like myself have had brand new ones crap out in a short time, or even had em crap out right out of the box. The one I have is tested and good but once I sell it it will no longer have the warranty at o’reillys unless I can find the original receipt.
if you are having distributor trouble I’d recommend just replacing the distributor altogether. they aren’t cheap, but the re manufactured ones carry a lifetime warranty so if it fails your ass is covered.
that said if you are interested in the coil make me an offer. I do not use paypal so we would have to work something out. I paid around 65.00 for the coil new, but will take a reasonable offer.
