last year, it was tight, today when i changed my valve cover gasket i noticed it was a bit slack. how do i tighten the belt? does that mean i need a new timing belt? thanks
If you look at the bottom end of the cover there should be a small plastic plug, take this off and you should see the 14mm bolt for the tensioner, now turn your crankshaft in engine direction about an inch and hold it there making sure it doesnt move back (anti-clockwise,(this is very important) undo the bolt enough so the tensioner can slide and it should take up the slack on the belt. thighten back up the bolt and your done!!! overtime the belts do seem to stretch a fraction.
