it might be that you have the wipers on the wrong side. in the summer time i take off my wipers, then if i was to re-intall them wrong, the drive side would hit the hood. that might be the case. just take off both wipers and switch them from left to right/right to left.
have you tried readjusting them? maybe they aren’t secured tight and when it reaches the end of motion, the momentum lets the arms travel a bit further than it needs to?
Readjust from the nut that holds the whole wiper arm on. Try loosening the nut and putting the left one a little closer toward the cowl and the right one higher toward the roof. I’m guessing your left should be hitting the windshield trim and the right one hitting the cowl.
I had the problem on my 1st DA and never fixed it. Then on the 2nd I messed it up when I fixed the plugs under the cowl and had to readjust until it was right.
Its your rods inside that are broken. I had the same issue. the rods are like dog bone joints, once the plastic joints fail thats what happens. If you take off the plastic cover under the wipers you will see them, each with its own rod.
