Need a new clutch! Whats the good stuff to get?

Trying to keep it kinda cheap  . I’m open though to options. Something thats not super heavy but grabs really well would be ideal. By Super heavy I mean I heavy on my foot, I dont wanna get a workout when I drive, and I do sit in traffic sometimes. So a heavy pedal would suck in that situation. I just want something that is gonna last me a long time, and I can shift this mofo nice and quickly and get some tire chirp action haha. Also, anything I should have checked out like the clutch cable? I was also thinking about changing my tranny fluid, any reccomendations on that?

If you have a link for me to buy this stuff, that would rock!

Allso, do I have to buy a flywheel? If not that would be cool, cause I can keep like 2-300$ in my pocket  .

The motor is stock at the moment (LS motor). I might turbo it though in the future. So that is a consideration.

Thanks a ton guys, forums been quite helpful lately

XTD clutch off e-bay if you want cheap

i had there stage 4 6puck and the clutch wasnt too heavy and it grabbed nice, held the power too

they also have clutch/flywheel combos

you dont need a new flywheel though, you do at least need to resurface it though, normaly costs around $20-25

I’ve had experience with Action 2KS and LSD Motorsports. I MUCH prefer the LSD anyday. Grabs nice, the service is excellent, and it seems like they are much more involved in the community as well.

If you are sitting in traffic, put it in neutral and let the pedal out. I myself prefer the feel of a stiff pedal and a smooth gearbox, not the other way around, that’s why I love cable clutches

LSD motorsports is a good place to do busniess

i was looking at the competition clutches on one of the forum sponsors sections. Those are nice clutches I know from other people that have ran them.

Anyone got links to these LSD clutches and anything else? I need places to buy these things  .

Comp, Exedy, etc. are all very well known brands that should work just fine. I just like to support the little guys haha.

Check out the scene over at www.homemadeturbo.com. Lots of good guys over there, but they’re pretty rough on the noobs haha.

exedy stage 1 is great for both stock and modified motors. My buddy has one on a B18B with 8psi that grabs great. If you plan on going big with the turbo though and are for sure going to do it, go stage 2.

Alright this sounds good… I’m either goin to go with the competition clutch stage 2 or the exedy stage 1 clutch for my needs… going to come down to what I can find cheaper  .

Thanks everyone.

i just took out a competition stage 2 what junk for a clutch would not tell anyone to buy that crap. i had a act for 4 years and breat the crap out of if and just started to slip a little when i pulled it. then i went with a competition stage 2 after 600 miles the throwout bearing started to make noise. i just pulled it out 2 weeks ago less than a year on it slips like hell. the presure plate and the flywheel had heat marks all the way around it and the disk was shot. what a junk clutch. was not happy from day 1 didnt grab like a act stg 2. just because its got a good name or a name everyone knows doesnt mean its good. maybe a just got a bad clutch kit but i will never get a competition again.

i had a exedy clutch basicly explode in my last hatch with a B16 swap, i personaly would never use them again

like i said you want cheap check out XTD on ebay, got my stage 4 6puck for 180 or so shipped

dont get no damn 6 puk clutch if this car is ur DD… get a full face

^ x2 mine squeaks like crazy and it annoys me soooo much.

yupp my F1 6 puk clutch grabs to hard and they just get eatin up so fast… but my next clutch will be full face… stage 1 or 2

i have had 6 pucks for all my DD’s (or 4pucks, but at least always puck clutchs save for the exedy that blew up)

whats wrong with them? mine never squeaks, chatters, or anything else and always has a smooth engagement

guess you lucked out then, mine didn’t squeak for a while. Some days it worse than others. Also they don’t last as long.

interesting, my puck clutchs last just as long as any normal clutch i’ve had

i got a 6 puk clutch and i like it dont get me wrong but just grabs hard because i have a 8 lbs flywheel also… and i like that too =)

I was looking at getting a full disk clutch, not a puck style. Hence why I looked at the 2 clutches I mentioned…

The guy above that said he had heat spots on his stage 2 comp clutch… you must kick the shit outta that thing man. I mean its not rated THAT high, no wonder the ACT held up better.

As it sits now, the car is basically bone stock, I dont race it. I drive it daily, and want something that grabs nice. It might see some boost in the future, but if and when it does I’ll be addressing the transmission as a whole with an LSD, rebuild, and a new much better clutch.

My driving habits are going to be basic daily driving, occasional stop light take offs, and I like to chirp 2nd gear every now and then  . Thats really it.

And one last thing, if you guys got clutches reccomended if you can link me to where you bought them that would rock. I’m a bit nervous about buying stuff off EBAY also, any reputible ebay sellers? Thanks alot again guys, been really helpful!

I checked out XTD… found these 2 clutches for my car. I dont think anything bigger than stage 3 would be needed for my needs hehe.

Also thinking about going with the lightweight flywheel at these prices… do these 8lb flywheels chatter or anything?
