can i unbolt the valve cover and clean it out in like two hours, bolt it back on, and be safe? i might paint it too.
yes, but make sure you bolt it back down to the proper torque specs.
Have you ever taken off your valve cover before? this would be a good time to buy a new valve cover gasket (cheap from the dealer) and replace it when you reinstall the valve cover. also make sure you use some hondabond on the sides as well…
hmm. what are all the things i need to take it off and remove it? i thought you could just unscrew it and it would be off, but i haven’t really looked in there. i have obviously never taken it off before.
Its easy, just a few 10mm bolts around it. Then lift off, but like he said, bolt them back to proper torque specs and get a new gasket. Peace.
Also when putting it back on start tightening from the inside bolts first and work your way out.
thanks guys. where could i find the proper torque specs, and how much is a new gasket going to cost me?
The main gasket is like $10 or so…but each spark plug well has its own ring gasket (total of 4). I highly recommend replacing those, too. They are about $2 each. My ring gaskets went bad and allowed oil to seep in and wet the spark plugs; causing the engine to hesitate.
this sounds great! i’ll probably do this within the next few weeks. thanks for the info guys

make sure you go and buy some torque wrenches… a worthwhile investment…
