Need Advice on Suspension

Wow, am I glad I found this site. I’ve read through the board for the last hour at work  First of all, I have a 91 Teg RS (89,000mi). Secondly, I have zero experience with auto repair. I am a complete newbie. I plan to have them professionaly installed.

All I’m looking for is an improved ride and increased performance. I’m not looking to race or anything like that. I’ve decided on 205/45/16 Kuhmo ECSTA 712 tires to go with Rota Speed Stream 16x7 wheels.

With this setup, what do ya’ll recommend for a suspension upgrade as far as shocks/struts/cambers etc. go? I know when I took my teg in for a checkup at 80k miles they told me I’d be needing struts soon so I figured the suspension was a good start to my overall performance upgrade over the next 6 months.

Keep in mind I’m not looking to lower my car and not looking for racing mods.

Thanks a ton

Kumhos are great street tires and have a long life. I think you’re talking about the rota slipstreams which I like as well. Good combo. If you’re not looking for all out performance I would go with neuspeed’s OE springs which will only lower about .75" and with aftermarket 16" rims you’ll want to lower it at least that much to get a stock look to it. I’d also for shocks I’d probably get tokico blues. If you want to get a camber kit for the front you could but you’d probably be safe with just rotating your tires every 10,000 miles. Good luck and welcome to g2ic.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I meant slipstreams… it was 5am, I’ll take a mulligan. I’ll go ahead and look into those shocks and springs on a few sites. Thanks again.

Ok, did some research and found some products. I happened upon http://www.modacar.com and saw some really cool package deals they have.

Are there any packages on this page that you would recommend? I’m not totally against lowering my car, just not to the point where I begin to sweat at the though of a speedbump (there are 2 on the way to my apartment).

Thanks again for your help.

Tom

Out of those packages I’d say #1 looks good for you. But, I’ve never heard anything about tokico springs before, they’re better known for their shocks. If you’re worried about scraping on speed bumps, park your car over one and have someone sit in the driver’s seat. Then measure the distance from the lowest point of your car to the top of the speed bump so you know how much room you have to play with. I have a 1.8" drop and have never scraped on anything, you should be fine with up to 1.5" of lowering.

if your not looking to lower your car, i remember a set of springs that were very good and didn’t lower your car much maybe a inch or so i think those were progress? shocks i would go with Koni’s, upper strut if u don’t have abs a neuspeed and a spoon rear, very nice setup, just wonderng why u don’t wnat to lower?

Well, I just want my car lowered enough such that the wheels fit in the wells perfectly with little to no gap. I actually did some more research. I found the tokiko blues seperately on this page for $289 and found 2 sets of neuspeed springs towards the middle of this page. Which springs would you recommend? The green or yellows? They are both the same price, $155.

Thanks again for all your help.

Tom

I think that you have to lower your car about 2" with 16" in order to fit the well with lil or no gap…correct me if I’m wrong someone…

Welcome to G2IC
