i have a 91 teg ls-s and i wanna do a gs-r tranny swap. jus wondering wat tranny should i go with and will it bolt up with no problem. how about the axles? will i have to modify the axles to make them work? and whats involved? i know some peeps around town that had done it but never got around to talk to them.(actually i dont really know them that good)
anybody with some tips, guide, or any help on the subject would really be great. thanks fellas and ladies.
thanks. i jus figure it would be quicker if someone would jus give me some quick input but since you already did, most of it anyways so thanks. now i know wat i’m looking at jus got to figure out the axle part.
Ok here’s the skinny. I’ve got a GS-R YS1 tranny on my 91 B18A1. The axles will work fine. Everything bolts right up. You do not need to limit your search to a 92-93 tranny, unless you really want a GS-R one. The 94+ GSR trannies are hydrolic and more hasle then they’re worth.
There are many B-Series trannies that are cable and have great gear ratios. Some even have LSD’s. Feel free to email me with any questions.
Also, you have a 91 Teg. If you get a 92+ tranny, you’ll need a 92+ clutch. If you get a 91 or older tranny, you could use your clutch if you wanted to, otherwise you’ll need to get a 91 or older year clutch.
kewl, so you’re saying that my stock axles should jus bolt in with the GS-R tranny. well, i’m in a search for a GS-R tranny 92-93.
yup, cause while i’m in there i’m going to upgrade the clutch(stage 3) and a lighten flywheel.
eh thanks for all the input. i know i should of did a search before posting but i jus thought it would be quicker and have all the info i needed instead of reading different searches and putting them together.(i’m lazy)
Good luck. I recomend a short shifter and bushings if you don’t already have them. I drove around for 2 days with the new tranny and then installed them. The short throw with the short gears just seems to go together.
kewl kewl…yea i’ve already had one in but made a mistake of getting the exhaust done first and then putting in the short throw shifter. the freaking shifter hit the exhaust and made it harder then crap to shift. had to drive around like that for one day until i redo the exhaust …lol:D
Good luck looking for a 92-93 GS-R tranny, I have been looking for about 4 months and they arent easy to come by localy. Well unless you live in Cali, I hear their a little bit easier to find there. But buyer beware, all the local shops here, and I mean ALL, have told me they had a GS-R tranny and I ask for the VIN and its a damn LS or GS or somthing else. Always get the VIN if you can. I evan had one part dealer get the VIN of another teg and switch the DA9 to DB2. Jerk. If you wanna find one try www.car-part.com they have them there about every other day and it changes cuz they go quick. Hope you find one. Laterz.
yea, i’m in cali but like you said, they’re hard to find. hey, if i cant find one, i might jus redo the gears in it. that’s if they dont cost too much or get NOS. which ever is cheaper.
