I’m sure I have the same problems as everyone else does having a sub box in the trunk of my 2 door g2. I would really like to build something custom for my two 10’s. Pics would be great. I need it to be as low as possible, still be able to get to my spare if I need to, and since I race it needs to be able to be taken out. Any ideas? I’ll probably make the enclosure out of 3/4" MDF and the rest of it out of 1/2" or 3/4" MDF unless someone convinces me that fiberglass or some other material isn’t that hard to work with. TIA.
What kind of subs? That’ll give us the best way to start giving you advice about the box. There is plenty of us who can help you out, just tell us the sub brand and model number so we can tell you exactly what size of box they should be in.
I can’t remember their model #. They are 8 ohm 10" eclipse subs. They are two years old now, they’re the black ones not the titanium ones.
I don’t really need help with what size box and stuff. I’m just looking for an idea of where to put them, which direction to face them, and how to get them as low in the trunk as possible while still keeping my spare.
Have u considered making 2 seperate boxes, then mounting each box in the part behind the wheel well and in front of the taillight? The space where the wheel well ends, and it curves out to the rear panel of the car (one side has the trunk light on it).
I hope you can figure out what I am talking about, I don’t have any pics on hand, but I have installed 2-12" subs in an Accord in this manner, to save space, allowing access to the spare, and to easy removal. Plus is saves a whole lot of room in the middle of your trunk, so you can still carry your skis/snowboard, or groceries quite easily.
I have thought of doing that actually. That is a really good idea and I would totally do that if it sounded good. I’ve found that the subs need to be facing the hatch glass to sound the best and I don’t know if I could do that with them on the sides. That would be a perfect idea though. Any thoughts on the sound aspect?
I’ve generally thought of subwoofers as pistons, no matter which way you face them, they will still produce the same outcome.
That being said, I realize that in different cars, location can play a role in inhibiting the sub bass sound from travelling (ie. placing the drivers against the back seat of some vehicles can stifle the sound). With the subs mounted on the side of the Accord, we didn’t find any difference than the subs firing towards the back of the trunk.
With our hatchbacks, I don’t think it will have a negative effect. Again, if you are concerned with the sound reflecting off the glass, you could create a wedge-shaped box that is angled, but I don’t think you’d be able to notice the difference.
very simple box for 2 10" subs face rear, 1.2 cf. still had access to my spare n all that.
the strap wraps thru the rear seat lock latches and stays put. i put in a rear strut bar and cant use this one anymore.
had my crossfires in there and always got great compliments on the bass.
