a few weeks back, i noticed my boots were torn and grease was splattered everywhere (original axles, no clicking). after searching through and reading the postings on cv joints, i decided to replace the joints with the autozone cv axles since the labor costs would be the same.
the problem that i have now is that every time i turn left, it clicks. every now and then, the right side clicks too. are the autozone axles just crappy? i paid a good amount to have the original axles that weren’t clicking replaced with re-manufactured axles with new boots that do click. this kinda stinks!!! does anyone in the chicagoland area have any good hookups to do work on replacing the joints?
one more question for everybody…(sorry if this is a stupid one)
“if you turn left and you hear clicking, does that mean the left cv joint is bad?” same logic for the right side too.
I’m pretty sure all of those come with lifetime warranties. It has been my experience that you don’t always get a good remanufactured axle.
It sounds like you may have received some bad axles. Since the hardest part is getting the axle nut off, you may just want to try and replace them since it is free. That’s what I would do anyhow.

hey, i hope this info helps. theres a place on montrose and kildare. right on the corner, its called “Kim’s Automotive”. they charged me $75 per cv joint. i dont know if this is a good deal or not, but i thought it was pretty fair. total came out to $150. i ran over train tracks really fast and my shocks were completley blown:uhoh: i messed up both cv joints bad, and they both started clicking when i would make turns on the street. i ripped the boots as well and grease was flowing everywhere. well i hope that info helps you out. or if anyone thinks thats too much, any input would help.
thanks for the reply. i brought my car to john’s auto on lincoln ave near bunny hutch (heard about this guy through a friend) and he charged me $75 per side also. he’s since sold his shop (and this was just a few weeks ago that i had this done).
funds are tight and wanna get this done before it breaks and leaves me stranded in the cold chicago weather.
does anyone know of a honest work/cheaper hookup in the chicagoland area? any mechanics out there that do jobs on the side that are part of G2IC?
