By ALL means I am not electrically inclined so I need some help. I live in the Diamond Bar area and am looking for a garage or someone who does electrical work for my DA. Need help with my headlights, turn signals, horn, and emergency blinkers.
There are a number of simple tests that can be done with a 12V test light without having to be “electrically inclined”, these same tests will be done at any shop you pick, at $80+ per hr.
You can pick up a 12V test light for as little as $1.49.
All you have to do is be able to is see wire colors and fallow directions and you should be able to troubleshoot your electrical problems yourself.
All I need from you is the MM&Y of the car and a description of the problems. 94
Your fog lights should only work if head lights are on, [low beam].
The fog lights will go out when you turn on the high beams, even if the fog light switch is still on, using fog lights when high beams are on would be pointless and you should never use high beams in the fog.
For the horn you need to start at the horn(s).
Check for power on the white/green lead of the 2pin plug.
Check for ground on the blue/red lead of the 2pin plug while someone presses the horn button.
Horn is fused at fuse 37 - 20A, [hot at all times] in engine bay fuse box, it is also the fuse for the brake lights, so if the brake lights work, the horn problem is not the fuse although it may still be a power problem, that’s why you test for power at the horn.
For the “front amber lights” and if you mean the front side markers, [blink on when hazards or signal lights are used, turn on when park/head lights are used and blink off when hazards or signal lights used if park/head lights are on] then the problem is your ICU, [integrated control unit], it is mounted to the back of the under dash fuse box, ICU problems are common in G2s and many older Honda/Acura, repairs to them are fairly easy but some tools are needed, [de-soldering/soldering equipment].
The ICU also controls things like your rear window defog, intermittent front wipers, warning chimes and dome light for drivers door.
By “The dimmer for the gauges don’t work”, what exactly do you mean?
You have no dash lights, [illumination] or you have dash lights but you can not control the brightness?
I am also not sure what you mean by “quick blinker”???
Thanks for your help. I will check those out when it stops raining.
The front amber lights on the front bumper, below the headlights tend to go off once in a while.
The dimmer scroll. Is that for the gauges or for the cab light?
The quick blinker??? I think the guy who last had this car attached a relay to the blinker to make it blink faster. Does that make sense? Maybe I will just follow the wire and remove it. I hope I don’t foul anything up.
As far as the side markers, I will be removing them and replacing the fenders with another pair I found on VIS Racing. The fenders with the vents.
I will follow your suggestions with the other items. I will keep you updated on my progress.
Dimmer scroll?
Do you mean the “Dash Lights Brightness Controller”?
If so, then yes, it controls the brightness of the dash lights, [gauge cluster, heater control panel, switches and lighter/ashtray].
Are the “gauge” lights not working at all or are they working and can not be dimmed?
If signal or hazard lights, [same light bulbs] flash fast it is an indication of burnt out bulbs, or some type of rewire, possibly LED lights installed.
It is unlikely a relay has been installed.
I would start by checking all the bulbs, front and rear to make sure they are the correct ones, also look for signs of rewiring of the front lights on the car.
Question…
Do the front side markers, [outside of head lights] work as I described?
Is there any sign of rewiring between them and the front signal lights, [bumper clip lights]? 94
gauge cluster works but the dimmer scroll doesn’t work.
heater panel, only some of the lights work. i am not worried too much about now because everything works but would like to be able to see everything in the dark in the future. LOL
front side markers work, but the hazzards do not work at all.
Still not sure what you mean by, "dimmer scroll doesn’t work.
"???
You need to be clear…
Either you have cluster illumination and you can not control the brightness or you have no cluster illumination at all.
If you have some illumination at the heater control panel then you have some blown bulbs, does the illumination work on the knobs/switches [fog light switch, rear defrost switch, hazard switch and so on]?
What lights up when you turn on the park lights? 94
Yes the cluster illuminates but I cannot control the brightness.
I will have to get back to you about the climate control panel. I don’t remember what lights up and what does not. I will send you a picture of the climate control panel tomorrow.
As mentioned before the hazzard lights do not work, but the front side markers do not work. Something must not be connected.
If the other illumination lights can be controlled by the DLBC, [Dash Lights Brightness Controller] then the problem is the dimmer circuit in the cluster.
You will need to pull the hazard switch and test for power on the white/green lead, [hazard power, should be hot at all times. 94
