Need Flexpipe?

I am installing my exhast soon, and I am wondering if I need a flexpipe after m header.

I have a Megan Racing 4-2-1 header, really nice header for the price, but I am not sure if I should put a flexpipe after it or not just to make sure that it doesnt crack down the road.

Also on a sidenote anyone know if the gaskets that come with the Megan header are any good?

Thanks!

You won’t need a flex pipe if…
A. The down pipe meets your cat and you can use the doughnut gasket, the purpose of the doughnut gasket is to allow the end of the downpipe to have some flex on the rest of the exhaust when your motor moves.

B. You don’t mind welding your header or buying a new one because your header is going to break in time.

c. You limit the flex on your motor to almost none.

The collector on the megan racing header is 2.5 inches in diameter your stock exhaust flanges are not. Another option is to purchase a highflow cat or test pipe, go to a parts store and find a doughnut gasket that fits on the end of the collector, and have a new flange welded on

I already have a carsound high flow cat, but it, along with everything else is 2.25" And I was going to have the rest of it just welded together because I got univeral everything so its not flanged. I was thinking about flanging the cat so I could remove it when I went to the track and run a test pipe instead.

And my motor mounts arnt completly bad, but the motor does move…So I guess I will end up needing one then huh?

Thanks, Matt

You could solidify your motor mounts like I did on my old, with with a 2 part uritane mix, so i welded all of my exhaust tubing straight to the header, I had no movement of my engine so I therefor never had issues with cracking or un needed stress.

Solidifing the mounts though takes dedication to a rattling car…I’d just put the flex pipe in there.

Do you just mix it up and pour, or scoop it I would guess into the mounts? I would like a link to a howto on that because I would like to get them a little more solid to maybe help with wheel hop, at least a little. Think I will still go with the flexpipe though, if there is any chance of reducing the chance of the header cracking then I will do it
