Need help fast, gotta get to work

I was out cleaning up my car yesterday and decided to check my oil, and to my surprise, there was none in the car at all. The stick was dry. I just had my oil changed on April 24th…Castrol GTX 5w30 is what was put in. So, I put 4 qt’s of oil in and figured it would be alright. I drove around for about an hour last night, no problems.

So, this morning, I get in my car, let it warm up then start on my way to work…a few minutes later, I see all of this white/blue smoke coming out of my exhaust, and my check engine light comes on. I pull over, check the oil, and theres plenty in there, but it’s very very thin. I’ve never had any kind of engine problem out of my car before. Any ideas as to what is doing this? I’m at home right now and need to get to work really soon.

Please help…thanks

does it stumble at all? does it burn while light on the gas? or only when at WOT?

I’d just drive it to work if it still rides smooth. Then you can deal with all this when you get home.

Good luck

Mike

it dosent stumble or bog any, but yea it smokes while I’m light on the gas, and when I floor it it really puts out the smoke. :frowning:

just because theres none on the stick dosent mean that there isnt any in there. you shouldnt just dump 4 more quarts in there-sorry I didn’t answer your question, just letting you know not to do that again

i burn oil some and sometimes my stick goes on dry but all ti takes to get it to full is 2 quarts emaning theres still 2 left in the engine so take it easy on the adding add a wuqart and check add and check.

you might want to check to compression, sounds llike it could be rings, head gasket, or valve seals.

Maybe you simply overfilled it? As others said, even if the stick was dry, there was mostly some leftover in there… I would suggest you do an oil change asap and check it often. Having too much oil in the engine is bad for the seals.

Maybe the smoke was because there’s too much oil in the engine.
