Ok, So long story short, I am pulling a Factory 91 Aero Kit from a car tomorrow morning before it goes to a junk yard, i need to know how to remove the kit without damaging the kit or the car (not so much the car).
I am assuming it’s all stuck on, but can someone tell me for sure? I need to take all tools with me the first time. I was thinking a 10mm, a panel popper, some fishing line (to cut adhesive if neccesary), some adhesive remover, etc…
I am going there in less than 12 hours to remove it before it gets towed by the insurance company, please post up if you know what tools are needed, any tips, and any of the brackets or clips that are a must to take off.
why dont you just take of the front and rear bumpers?..and just try to figure out how to take off the sides skirts…i’m guessing it all bolts off …take a phillips screw driver 10mm & 12mm…
the other day i saw an old lady driving a white 90-91 with OEM aero kit…she probably had no clue, that or she visits the g2ic forums daily and tries hard to keep her car JDM.
I wasn’t allowed to pull bumpers, btw, if you guys ever try this, take LOTS of liqud wrench or some other penetrating lube… The bolts were so rusted on…
There are 10mm bolts on every front and rear bracket, then the lips screw to the brackets with screws, many of the screws rounded out, and most of the 10mm bolts broke… it wasn’t a very fun experience…
On the side skirts, you unscrew the front caps and they come off easy, the skirts just unscrew at the back edge, then there are 3 8mm pinch bolts on each bottom pinch weld, then pop the sill plates in the door jams and they come off easily.
The door caps are also pretty easy. you get some 80lb fishing nylon line (not plastic line). and spray in some Goof Off, let it sit, then saw the line back and forth against the door. whole thing comes off with all 5 metal brackets in about 20 seconds…
I ended up getting the whole kit in 30 minutes, and $50. :ohyeah: :ohyeah:
The rear skirt was a bit cracked from the accident, but nothing that can’t be fixed. Should be painted and installed Sunday. I am still gonna keep my Kaminari Front bumper though.
I’ll post pics tomorrow, did all the body work today, and got the sides painted, rear is a bit more work left due to the accident it was in…
And I am not going to use the front lip, won’t come anywhere near going on the Kaminari front. I will probably hold onto it with my OEM front bumper, unless I find someone to trade me a Turbo manifold or something for my upcoming Boost project…
I’ll Post up tomorrow afternoon after I get the sides installed, I hope to have the rear lip fixed entirely and painted tomorrow, should be able to put it on in the evening, or possibly Tuesday afternoon at work.
