need help on disconnecting engine harness

i am pulling my motor and am having difficulty disconnecting the engine harness from the car.

if you have any tips or tricks on doing this id much appreciate it. thats the only thing holding me back.

If this is ur first time i suggest labeling the connectors. taking time to do that makes it alot more easier wen putting everything back together imo

Ok thanks ive been taking pics for reference. when i bought the car it was a shell so putting everything in was much easier but disconnecting the harness has proven to be quite a challenge.

What do you need help with, specifically?

X2 for labeling. I used tape and a marker to note where every plug went. Much easier in the long run.

disconnecting the main harness. theres two main plugs by the driverside shock tower and like three plugs by the battery. i cant get them seperated…

What particularly are you having issues with? Off the top of my head there are only 4 main connection points:

  • passenger side near the battery there should be 2-3 connectors to be disconnected
  • Starting/charging system wires connected to the fuse box
  • driver side between the cowl and strut tower you’ll find the Injector and other general wiring connectors
  • depending on your setup you should also have some MAP/EVAP wiring from the back of the manifold to the firewall

this is the only part holding me back the rest thats required to drop motor has been disconnected or removed

anybody have any tips on seperating old stuck electrical plugs? i know which ones to disconnect. i dont know how to do it without damaging something… would spraying brake cleaner help loosen connectors without damaging wires?

Pics? Sometimes you gotta yank on 'em, but usually it’s pretty straight forward. Some of the connectors you have to push a little locking tab, others you have to lift that locking tab. You can do this with your hands or a flathead screwdriver. And if you get that locking tab lifted/pressed and the connectors won’t separate then you can use a flathead to pry the two sides apart.

fireThe main harness connectors (ie: driver shock tower, etc) are typically mounted/secured to a metal bracket that is bolted to the engine-bay.

When I pulled my harness, it seemed like this metal-bracket was holding the connectors together… they felt “stuck” as you described… but once I disconnected each harness-connector from thus metal bracket, the harness disconnected with ease.

I think not only do the metal-brackets serve a purpose as organizingthe harness, but also securing the connections in a “fail safe” manner.

Are your connectors already separated from the mounting brackets?
