Dont really know where to put this , but i assumed it would be here. I have a 1990 gs with power windows but not power locks. I got a wrecked 91 ls with power everything. Can someone explain to me how to swap power locks into my 90 gs?
Would be a lot easier to just get a two door central locking system… http://shop.ebay.com/items/__2-door-central-locking_W0QQ_kwZ2QQ_kwZdoorQQ_kwZcentralQQ_kwZlockingQQ_ckwZsystemQQ_cqrZtrueQQ_nkwuscZ2doorQQ_nkwuscZcentralQ20lockingQ20systemQQ_rusckZ1?_trksid=p3286.m104.l1198
all new instead of 18 year old stuff. 94
I know, but i would like to lock and unlock the door while i’m in the car, enstead of reaching over or telling my passenger to. I’ll be getting an alarm, but that wont be for awhile. Plus its all free right now. can someone tell me what i need to get and where its located at in the car.
Umm are you sure the 91 LS is power everything? I have a 91 LS and mine doesn’t have power door locks. It has power windows but no door locks.
The only way you would be able to do that is the way fcm suggested. If you’re going to get an alarm then just wait till you do and put in power door lock actuators that the alarm can control…
With a central locking system the stock “manual” door lock switches become power door lock switches, anyway…
You will need the power door lock actuators, door lock switches and door harnesses from the doors of the 91, you will also need the power door lock control module, not sure where it is in a 91, probably under dash on drivers side, and short of pulling the dash harness from the 91 you will need at least the plug for the module and at least a few inches of lead and the pins for the dash to door harness plugs, 7 on drivers side and 5 on pass. side.
The 90 dash to door harness plugs will have to be re-pinned with the door lock leads that you depinned from the 91 and those leads extended to the module, you will also need to power lead from the fuse box to the module although you can get power for the module from any 12V+ constant source.
I am not sure if the whole dash harness from the 91 is compatible with the 90, if it is then swapping them would eliminate any depinning and re-pinning and extending leads, but it does mean a dash pull on both the 91 and the 90.
See what I mean about an aftermarket kit being easier, and if the only factors are, the ones you have are free, and locking and unlocking both sides from either side, the that depends on what you figure your time is worth, and as mentioned you get central locking with the aftermarket kits, [manual switch in both doors become power door lock switches, even one step better, unlock the pass. door with the key and it will also unlock the drivers side, unlike the the stock system that only works from the drivers side.
You can even install the power door lock switches from the 91 to control the aftermarket system although not needed. 94
FCM what the hell is up with you ending all your posts with (94).

It’s to remind all you G2ers that I drive a G3, [94LS, with a solo2 setup, GSR tranny with Phantom grip LS, 75 shot (ZEX) and a chit load of suspension and Yokohama 032Rs for the track] it is also my “race” number, the year my first grandson was born and it just a good way to drive people like you nuts until you find out.:rimshot: 94
