As I discovered, it may not be exactly as shown in the OZ diagrams. There is on my car a plastic cover over the coil/igniter assemblies that cannot be removed without first removing the rotor. There is only one slot in this cover to access the rotor retaining screw. The slot is on the firewall side of the distributor and a good view of it is blocked by the intake. So, it looks like you have to remove the intake and then rotate the crank until the screw appears in the slot. What a pain in the ass. I haven’t done it yet but am not looking forward to it. It is almost easier to take out the whole distributor first, of course, making sure you mark it accordingly to get it back into the correct position for the timing and firing order.
My fault for referring to ignition control module as the igniter…i’m talking about the icm which is the square looking chip with three or four wires attach to it…i’ve already removed the stock ignition coil and the rotor but i don’t know where to start off removing the icm…my car turns over and there’s no spark from the distributor…the rotor turns and i’ve tried two other coils…i followed the manual instruction book for my car step by step and it boils down to the ignition control module…there was nothing wrong with my car until i tried to install an MSD ignition…it was turning over but no spark so i thought the MSD ignition was bad…wires must have touched somewhere because when i put the stock ignition coil it was doing the same thing…need help bad so please help
The ICM only has two screws holding it, and a little one that looks to be some kind of ground.
