i need your help guys. recently i did a stock rebuild on a 92 ls motor and i relocated the ect switch to the thermo housing, but the fan didnt turn on when it was suppose to. I was trying to wire it to turn on when i turn the car on, but am confused about this. Can any of you guys shine some insight on how to do this?(or even better can any of you help me determine what is not causing the fan to turn on) I have a dmm, but have rarely used it and i figured now would be a great start. I tried searching, but am still very confused about diagnosing. I am a noob when it comes to electrical stuff but i would love to learn.
Have you consulted your Helms manual and done the appropriate troubleshooting procedures? If nothing changed other than the ECT switch, then I would assume that your old switch was good and the new switch is bad. However they rarely go bad, so it could also likely be an unrelated problem and just a coincidence that you had a failure at the same time you swapped in the rebuilt motor.
Go thru your Helms, and do some more searches here, I’ve gone over the radiator fan system wiring a handful of times before, but mainly in regard to eliminating the AC fan and fan control module in order to simplify things.
ok got the fan to kick on. i replaced my ect switch. I had another question tho, is the fan suppose to blow air towards the radiator, or away from it?
Thanks for your help
Also, kind of off topic, but i want to replace my driver side axle because it doesnt enter the housing all the way. Am i suppose to get a 92 axle since my motor is 92? Also, how would i check if i need a abs or non abs one? I need to replace my axle, but i dont want to tear everything apart and not have the right axle.
I was pretty sure the fans PULL air, from in front of the car, through the radiator.
If the fans were PUSHING air, they’d be pushing hot air directly off the header, through the radiator.
Not only would that have poor cooling properties, it wouldn’t make much sense for the fans to PUSH air forward because when you drive air is naturally pushing backwards.
OEM fan is a puller fan like Unified mentioned, and for the reasons he mentioned. Puller fans are more efficient than pusher. Generally the only reason people install them in a pusher configuration is aesthetics.
Axles are easy. All 90-93 integras use the same axles except for the ABS ring. If your car has ABS, then order an ABS axle. If your car does not have ABS then order a non-ABS axle. If you don’t know if your car has ABS, then just order an ABS axle, it will work fine in a non-ABS car with no side effects.
