Hi
everyone ,
can some one help me with hooking up my auto start alarm! i know you can hook them up on 5sp cars but i dont know what to hook up to make it work?i have a 90 teg gs if that helps…
thanks
I was going to get auto start on my 5speed but they told me at one shop that it was illegal (so ignored them and went to the one that tyler works at) and they told me that in order to do it I need to use a different unit becuase it has to tie in to clutch lever and what not. So its not the same unit that you use for autos.
If you find out how to do it or that what I was told is incorrect I will be happy to hear it.

Dangerous to do it on Manual tranny rides because we usually park with the car in gear (just in case the hand brakes fail). When you start it and it’s in gear the car MAY launch forward or backward (depending on what gear you’re in).
I ALWAYS use neutral and the parking brake.
Just a habit I have I’m not worried about doing that.

me and my friend have had autostart on our five speeds for almost a year now. My alarm (clifford G4) was made for doing this to 5 speeds.
As far as your question…you can modify the current unit you have to work but it will be much easier to use a unit that is made for this. I can personnaly recomend the clifford system…I have had many alarms and this has passed them all easily.
Personally, I dont understand why there is a separate deal for automatics vs manual. My car was an automatic with remote start, and when I did my conversion, everything was still functional. Im pretty sure its all in how its hooked up. Theres just more stuff involved with the manual trannies. From what I hear, theres a special switch that tells the alarm if the car is in gear or not, but I hear its spendy too. I need to look into it, Ive allready seen my car bookin down the street by itsself:shock: Cant be havin that happen again.

Im sorry but I wish I had that on video That would be funny
Check under the clutch pedal. There is a wire hooked up to a button. Jump the wires so there is continuity. When the clutch is depressed (as in starting your car), the button is closed. that is the signal you want.
thanks everyone i am going to hook it up today i will let you know what happens!!!
i just hooked it all up everything works great but you have to have the clutch in and push the button to start it… i only see a plug in front of the clutch so i tried that with a jumper and it didnt work any advice?
thanks:D
i have a remote start for an auto in my five spped just hook it up regular and ground the wire on the clutch. now even when you go to start your car with the key you dont have to press in the clucth, just turn and go. now when you r/s your golden. oh yeah, i hope your used to parking with your car in nuetral
I had an AutoStart alarm/starter combo put in my 5 speed about a year ago, and this is the deal with legal, safe, proper 5-speed starter installs:
-
to be legal, they have to have a failsafe way to prevent the car from starting in gear – before you get out of the car, you must put it in neutral, take your foot off ALL pedals, and then hit the start button on the remote. the lights will flash, indicating that the car is in neutral and ready to be started w/o fear of launching into a wall, car, person, toddler, etc…
-
Once you exit the car (w/o touching a pedal or the shifter, otherwise it’ll turn off immediately), you must hit the Stop button on the remote, which turns off the car. If you were to open the hood, doors, or hatch after this, the remote starter would be disabled.
-
To start the car, simply hit the start button. Once inside the car, you must put the key in and turn it to ON, before touching ANY pedals (otherwise, again, it’ll turn off). There ya go! Safe and done!
I know that AutoStart makes one (I own it), with a carbon-fiber look remote, but I can’t remember the model number off hand. The whole unit (alarm, dual-stage sensors, glass breakage sensors, starter-kill, backup battery), and the starter unit, and professional installation with lifetime warranty on everything, cost me about $500 CDN taxes included. This is a great deal for the quality of the unit and the warranty I got.
Anyhow, check out the AutoStart website, and I know that DEI (Viper, etc…), makes these types of units too. I think its the Avital line specifically.

REMOTE START
i have installed a remote starter on a manual car before, all you have to do is look for the two wires that come out of the switch that gets pushed in when you push in the clutch pedal, just jump those two wires together. thats going to be permanent now, no more pushing the clutch in to start the car, just be really careful
That’s not the case with my remote starter… I still have to push the clutch in when starting normally, but I guess they used a relay or something to bypass the clutch-check when using the remote start.
Works fine. For safety and piece of mind, I’d pay a professional installer to install this remote start (for manual tranny) for you.
