Is the intake resonator that long plastic pipe covering 1/2 the bumper? If not what do i remove?
Thx in advance

the resonator is a boxy looking thing which is in your bumper. take your bumper off and u will see it. its right under the intake box. i think there are three bolts to take it off.
Thx man, i was gonna take off the wrong piece.
no problem man u going to love the sound of the intake after its done.
Just incase you dont want to take off your bumper, you can remove the passenger side wheel well cover and you’ll be able to remove the resonater from there.
Just another way.

Is there any danger to taking this off? Does it increase performance?

No danger in taking it off…
Sounds kinda growly and cool…
No performance gain worth noting…
You’ll need to pitch your resonator anyway when you step up to a CAI

Rob
Speaking of cold air intakes… Are the ones on ebay, like these…
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1826866893&r=0&t=0

Any good?

Hey Mike…
Those are solid and for the price you’ll love the performance increase over just removing the resonator.
On the other hand, if you can get your hands on a used AEM or just save some and look for a good deal, you’ll LOVE the difference the AEM makes over stock… diameter, finish, bends have all been fine tuned by AEM…
I’d guess the knock-off is pretty close though, and if you were to switch from the ebay to the AEM, I’m guessing the difference wouldn’t be all that significant. The little things start to count though when you’re all modded up (not me) and you’re looking to squeeze every last little bit out of your combined setup…
Just my .02:D
Best,
Rob
Yeah, im not looking to race or anything. (I have a 4 door auto ) I just want to experement, and I hear they make a cool sound
Mike
I just bought that CAI off ebay, should get it in a week or so. I’ll let you know how it performs.

You’ll definitely dig the sound! Removed resonator sounds good, but the Ebay intake will sound even better…
I LOVE the way my AEM ROARS at WOT, especially over 4000 rpms… and I definitely notice an objective, seat of the pants kick over my stock intake.
Can’t go wrong with the Ebay at that price… have fun!
Got it all back together without the resinator! Sounds AWSOME!
I want more cool sounds though, Gota get a cold air intake!
Few questions about them though… Is the cold air intake were the filter goes were the Resinator was.
And is a short air (name?) is where it goes to were the AIR BOX currently is?
And if youve been doing reseach or have an Ebay cold air, wich ones the best for the $$
Thanx,
Mike

Good job; that’s a fun little mod and the sound is fun.
Yup, the filter for the CAI will be down in the space behind the bumper/above the splashguard; its cool - the intake tube will run through the hole left below your intake box/above the resonator…
That’s why a CAI adds performance over a short ram (like DC) - the CAI draws cold air (and in WA the air is COLD) as opposed to the short ram drawing air from the engine compartment. Supposedly the engine compartment temp drops when the car is in motion, but I have seen a comparative test done with temp. monitors at the throttle body alternating the CAI and the short ram: at speed the air temp in the short ram was 20-30 degrees above ambient (thus on a 60 deg. day, the inlet air was at 87 degrees)… the CAI’s inlet temp was measured at EXACTLY ambient (ie. 60 degrees at 60 degrees) - the difference is significant.
Further, my own research shows that AEM has taken steps to tune the bends, diameter, and coating to optimize velocity, torque, and temperature; Injen and Iceman are the alternate companies that seem to have done likewise… Again, I think the EBAY variety is a great deal over stock (and over any shortram no matter price) at $40. However, like I said before, I think the AEM, INjen, or Iceman have that little extra bit that some of us go nuts for when trying to squeeze every little bit out of our setup.
And besides, when I pop my hood, my “clear” (silver) AEM intake looks mean as hell!!!
Think about this…
When you remove your intake resonator, doesn’t that already make it a CAI?.. and if you were to switch to something like DC, do you think that’s downgrading? heheh
yea it is working as a cold air intake but an after market cold air is smooth inside but with the stock it has those lumps and crap on it.

Its close, but think about the actual air flow. How many times does the diameter of the “intake” (ie. the empty bumper space - to - small resonator access hole - to - bottom of air filter housing - to - actual filter element…) change from where the cold air enters your car (behind bumper) and where the air filter actually sits and from which the “tube” runs to the throttle body? Now think about the set-up of a CAI with the filter positioned in the bumper space with a consistent diameter and mandrel bends all the way to throttle body.
Remember, its not just about cold air, but the optimal combination of cold air and velocity.
