okay so i got a new rear bumper and I want to paint it white (like my car). The only problem is I have no idea where to start. I tried to search but since paint/painting is so widly used, it would take hours to get anywhere. if someone could give me some advice on how to paint my bumper, I would appreciate it.
I need to know, how (i.e. sanding, what kind how, when, what order do I apply things such as differnt paint/primer type stuff)
yeah, i did search. but the keywords PAINT is everywhere. thats called searching for a needle in a haystack. and i did see a restoration thing from morrasso but nothing as far as to how he did it.
honestly if you’ve never done any painting before i would definatly not recommend doin it yourself. getting it prepped for paint wouldn’t be that hard and even priming it isnt bad if you have the necessary tools and equipment. but painting is that easy and clearing is even harder especially if you’ve never done it before. and if you put a run in the paint or even in the clear then you just have to sand it down and start over. so i would recommend finding some1 who has done it before or just get it quoted at a shop
got a quote. way too much money. i would rather do it myself. I don’t see it being that hard. I will just have to go slow, and be careful. But I am going to try to see who I know also. If I know someone, then that would help alot. thanx for the input though
you may want to shop around for a quote on color matching the new rear bumber. Or you could start doing hours of research and practice painting on other car body parts you have laying around. there are alot of things to consider. a major thing is drying time and having a clean area to work in. Paint booths are used for a reason in quality finishes.
If you have access to a hvlp spray gun and a buffer then do it youre self. You want to either strip it down to bare metal and use any primer or buy some epoxy primer. Paint you have a couple of choices i like basecoat clear coat. PPG is genarlly speaking is cheaper call up your local store and find out where is the paint code. I suggest buying a quart of primer, paint, and clear coat. Don’t forget activator for primer and reducer for paint and hardner for clear coat.Plan on spending around $ 150. Remember that it is all about the prep work.
