Need some help w/ Brake lights issue

Im having this problem recently, during the day when my lights are off my brake lights dont work when I brake, and during the night when I turn on my lights the brake lights come on as well as the third brake light but it stays bright as if I was pressing on the peddle, Is this happening because of that switch located above the peddle? Thanks in advance guys

Hopefully FCM will chime in, he’s the electrical guru from what I remember…hopefully he’s still on the boards. In Hawaii do you have a Day time running light module, I had a similiar problem, and it turned out, that was the issue, just unplugged it. Good Luck.

Not that I know but I’m open to any possibilities so I’ll definately look into that, thanks bro!

def not the brake switch. if the lights are illuminating when you turn the headlights on, then there is a short somewhere in the wiring. a 12v signal is sent to the brake AND

def not brake switch. if the lights are coming on when you turn the headlights on, there is a short. a 12v signal is being sent to the running AND brake light…illuminating both of them, but is being shorted out b/c when the switch if off, nothing happens…a break in the brake wire somewhere. these wires are not hard to find, as they run along the drivers side floor to the rear…they follow the trunk and gas door cables.

Sounds like you have two problems, the first one is a blown brake light fuse or defective brake light switch.

The second problem is most likely the filaments of one of the tail/brake light duel filament bulbs touching each other or possibly a bad ground at a duel filament bulb socket.

I would start by checking the brake lighr fuse, [fuse 37-20A, hot at all times, in engine bay fuse box].

If fuse is good, unplug the brake light switch and use a paper clip, [or the like] to jump the plug leads, [white/green (input) and green/white (output)], do this with ign. off and lights out, if brake lights work the switch is bad, replace it.

For the second problem, remove all brake/park light bulbs, turn park/head lights on, replace one by one until brake lights turn on, that will be the bad bulb or socket, swap the bulb with one you have already installed, if brake lights still come on, it is the socket, [check the ground] if not, it was the bulb, [filaments touching] replace the bulb. 94
