Need Some Help!!!!

Just got my 93LS back from a tune up to find out all my motor mounts are broken and my timing belt needs replacing along with my drive belts…this is work I’m not prepared to do myself the engine it self has 150k on it and I don’t really want to sell it so I need some opinions on what to do, at this point I’m not going for speed but the cheapest/easiest/safest thing to do.

the 2 thoughts I had were:

  1. pay a shop to replace the mounts and belts

  2. get a newer LS longblock and swap out

I was talking to some friends and they are telling me I could get a longblock for around 600.00 which sounds like it might cost around the same as fixing the current problems.

I’m kinda looking for the pros/cons and any other ideas would help.

Im positive you could get a longblock for cheaper
than 600. The only thing is if you cant put it in,
your gonna make up the money with the labor.

Yeah you could have some place do your belts
and mounts to your existing motor, but w/150K
you should prolly think about just changing it out
anyways. NOT IMPLYING that you cant get more
miles out of what you got, but why pay for the
new parts/labor for the old motor.

Id say swoop up a 1st gen longblock for like 420,
but then you gotta outfit it with maintinance crap
anyways + the mounts you said are shot so…

Im not sure what to tell ya. Anyway you slice it
labor sucks! Your situation is exactly what made me
realize I gotta start doin my own work.

What engine does my 93 LS have…b18a or b18b or ZC? been looking online and cant find any help

B18A 140Hp

Look on your block on the left of your headers and to the right of your tranny, there’s a stamp on the block that will most likely say B18A or B18B, if your engine’s dirty, look for a small square flat surface that looks like it’s facing right towards you and clean it off (next to the headers on the block). It’s most likely a B18A though.
