So I’m finally dropping off the DA to get the turbo installed and tuned on Monday. But for some reason I’m not excited as I thought I would be. In fact I’m having second thoughts about doing it at all.
I wish I could have a clue as to why I feel like this but I have no idea. I woke up this morning and in a way I hate my DA. I’ve been reading a lot of threads this past week about how muscle heads hate on imports and everyone’s a rice rocket, ricer, etc etc and I think that may have gotten to me.
Am I just getting cold feet, or am I actually maturing enough to realize dumping a crapload of cash into a Honda could be better used on a muscle car that’s actually made to make power.
I can’t believe I even said that, I’ve had my DA for 11 years and always loved and defended it, so I don’t know what is going on through my head. I’m literally a few feet from the ‘finish’ line with finally having it turbo and I’m just not feeling it.
If you like your car then you shouldn’t care what someone else on the internet thinks about what you do to a car you like. What’s the difference between dumping money into a honda or a muscle car? You should put money into a car because you like it not because of threads on the internet. What does being mature have to do with you dumping money into a muscle car or an import?
What I meant about mature is that usually people past their 20s don’t mess with Hondas, they move up to a BMW, or a Mercedes, or hell even like G35s or TLs, etc.
Because let’s face it, how many modified Hondas are driven by people in the age range of 16-29 and how many are driven by people in the age range of 30+? You rarely see people in the 30+ range driving ‘supped’ up Hondas, and I’ll be in the 30+ range this year.
But I think you’re right I’m too worried about what other people think.
Coz
I know a few people in their 30’s who still put money into their hondas. There’s two guys on this site from pa who have Da’s with work done to them and they are over 50 and i’m sure there are plenty others. I actually had a member drive to my house from maryland to pic up an armrest for his db2 that was 45 and had alot of work done to his car. I’m about to turn 32 and i’m in the middle of building my teg. I have a mercedes as a daily driver and during the summer i drive the acura 95 percent of the time because it is actually more fun to drive

I’m 27 and I could care less. I have a nice fancy car, a DD, and then my baby db2. You like what you like.
Also remember that muscle cars for the older generation is big because thats what they grew up with. When I was in highschool in the late nineties imports were huge. A couple kids had ITR’s and thats when I fell in complete love with Hondas.
Even then I have a few older homies into eighties monte carlos and caddies for lolo’s. But again its what they grew up with and have a passion for; who cares if the majority of people think they are peices of shit.
That one movie Grand Torino, there is a part where he is sitting on his porch after washing his car and he just looks at it and exclaims, “Ain’t she beautiful” or something. If you can relate with your car keep it, if not get something you can relate that to.
domestics are ugly as fk lol…seriously they have no style except for the vette. Now I have no idea what you want your honda for…road racing?? daily?? drag?? Honda is not about power, is about suspension dynamics, style, spirited driving for the skilled driver, taking a turn faster than a domestic in other words. Remember is alot more fun to go fast in a slow car than to go fast in a fast car (if you know that I mean).
I don’t think muscle cars have to do with any of this. Sounds more like “following the crowd” of the threads you re reading. If you love something pretty much you’ll stick with it. Of course theres ups and downs. But I love my da and I plan on never getting rid of it. But then I dont plan on it being my dd for much longer.
In my opinion you just want another dd. and maybe you feel like putting a lot of money and time in your car and it still doesn’t look as nice as you wished or looking at some other guys cars it doesnt look as nice. But thats why theres projects and cars are pretty much never done with. Theres always something to do. I would get another dd, comfortable so you can have this as your fun car on the side. I’m sure once you put that turbo on you’ll have plenty fun.
What keeps me striving for me car is goals. I have lots of goals for my car in the future as the car overall and for me as driver. Its a growing process for both of us. Find something you want this car for and go for it. When you do something for nothing theres really no connection there. Hope something helped there. Go with what you like…
Heh, yah I think I’m more scared of being ‘done’ with it, as the turbo has been a long term goal of mine and now that it’ll be a reality I think maybe I’m afraid I won’t have anything to look forward to in the future.
I do have another DD, my DA hasn’t been my DD since '03 so that’s not an issue.
I guess I’m feeling that I don’t belong in any crowd anymore since anyone that is in the Honda game is in their late teens, early twenties and I’m the ‘old’ guy now. That’s where the whole ‘growing up’ thoughts are coming from.
I do love my DA, and I put a lot of time and money into it. I guess the feeling that I’m having is most similar to getting cold feet on your wedding day, as gay as that sounds.
humm…why don’t you sit down and think of what you really want with the car. what are your plans for it? or do you have plans for it? For me turboing it is almost just the start of the fun. :D. I can see how its kinda starting to fade for you because youve been doing it for so long. a lot of people start to stray away from a hobby after theyve been doing it for so long. but some people don’t. its all up to you. just think about it what would you do if you kept the da and continued. what would you do if you got rid of it?

I’m 29 and still drive my DA well I don’t drive it every day as I got an IS for a daily. So what I’m trying to say is that I see no problem with some one our age driving a modified Honda.
I konw how you feel, if you go back a few pages, you’d see my thread. I’m 32, and I love my DA. I’d never drive anything else unless i can keep my DA. Thought about selling it for a 2010 GTI but changed my mind. drove my boss’ 335i (2009?) and sure its fast…but no where is it as fun as my DA.
DA’s CANNOT be replaced…I know many people, on this forum, in fact, that have moved on…to BMWs, Benzes, etc…and have moved back.
look if you like your car keep it.laydee mini is right find a goal and it will keep you focused.if you are doing it to follow the crowd then walk away.but if your like me you would not give it up.I’ve had mine for 13 years and I’m 35.can’t give it up. my 2 cents.
i kno 1 person who had a DB1 sold it missed it got a DC hated it sold it got a DA felt great decided so try something else so sold it got a 2.5 RS and hes happy. hes the only person i kno to give up integras. i have tons of friends who ither will never sell or have sold and regret it. if u wanna turno go turbo. if u dont dont but dont give it up u will regret it and i garentee if u go for muscle or luxury ull come back
ive owned a handful of cars over the years. some of them were good, some were awesome, most were crap.
aside from all the “youll regret it” “youll come back to DAs anyway” hype, the DA is one of those cars that just feels right.
certain personalities fit certain vehicles.
if you feel like you would be better off in a different car, try one out. unless youre really strapped for cash (if youre boosting a honda, id hope youre not) going out and finding a slightly used example of what you think you might like might be a good thing for you. you can always sell the car after if you dont like it.
but if youre going to step away from the DA, hold onto it if you can. of all of the capable cars ive owned, only one didnt break the bank when used to its capability. and thats been my DA. the upkeep on hondas is so freakin cheap. i get like 30mpg and actually have fun in my DA, as opposed to worrying about cornering left too hard so that i dont slip all my accessory belts off of the crankshaft like on my jag. or worrying about being careful on the 3-4 shift in my Alfa because of the terrible OEM synchros that would grind right off the showroom floor.
there is nothing like the practicality of a honda, even if it is a money pit. its the most efficient money pit there is. take on big-ol V8s and still get GREAT gas mileage? sorry to ramble but there is just something about the DA that makes people crazy, they sell them and then realize what they did and cant replicate what they had… good luck either way
I appreciate the kind words guys. I wasn’t going to get rid of the DA, too much time and money put into her and to sell that to someone who may not appreciate all the hard work put into it, I don’t find that a very attractive way out.
I needed some motivation into getting me re-inspired about getting the turbo kit that I’ve pieced together for so long to finally get it installed and tuned this week as I wasn’t feeling as excited as I thought I would have been when I made the appointment with my tuner.
Well after driving her this weekend, and after reading your comments I am re-energized on this whole process and am super excited about dropping her off tonight for the turbo install! I guess I also needed to see who else is out there close to age as me who still enjoys their DA as when they were younger.
Thanks for the kind words, and look forward to seeing pictures later this week or next week of the setup along with the tune info and I’ll try to see if I can get a video when it’s on the dyno.
I just came back from dropping her off at the tuner, and lemme tell you, it was intense. They were dynoing a bubble Civic with a K series swap and the sound that thing was making was intense. I can’t wait till I get mine on the dyno this week. I’ll take a video LOL
