Need to know my engines year?

i have a 91 integra with a b16a. but i dont know what year motor it is and i need to replace the distributor on it because it has a ls distributor on it. I wrote down the serial number of the block where it says b16a but i cant seem find a way to find out. can anyone help me with this?

any year b16 distributor should fit. just get one for a del sol vtec or a 99-01 civic si, whichever is cheaper. both were equipped from the factory with b16a motors.

Thanks

I wasnt sure cuz when I had the LS in it I got a distributor from a friend for cheap that was outta a 92 which is OBD1 and the bolt patterns and plugs didnt match up, but Thanks man Ill check that out.

Over the exhaust manifold, should be some circles with #'s in them. They are a pain in the butt to read with the heat shield on, but if you have a small mirror, you should be able to read them. The #'s are the date the HEAD was built. Its pretty straight forward. You should see a 8/9 9/0 9/1 9/2 etc in I think the first circle. Thats the year. The rest is the month and day and hour. I cannot see mine (car not close at the moment) but it would tell you the year its built, NOT the year of the car. Add a year, and that should be the year of the car.

the year of you motor is’nt really relavent
the operating system for the motor is what you need to worry about (obd)
you have a 91 which came from the factory with obd 0
if someone did a obd 0 to obd1 conversion you need an obd1 distributor
check the code on your ecu and the color of the plugs on the distributor
obd 0 is cream colored and obd1 is grey

Listen to Jaysteven. Former Acura Owner has absolutely NO idea what he is talking about.

Assuming that your car has not been converted to obd1… You’ll need an obd0 vtec b series distributor. This was never made here in the states so you won’t be able to buy one at the local dealer. You’ll have to search the for sale forums or ebay…

Coulda sworn a 91.5 - 93 or atleast a 93 was obd1. And I know for a fact b series obd1 was made in the US. Del sol. B16a2. Its not hard at all to find an obd1 distributor at autozone. I got my cap for my b16 (jdm gen2) at autozone. Had them look it up for a 93 gsr. The issue is not if an obd1 b18 was made, but if you can find obd1 parts easily. Yes you can.

they did make obd0 b16’s which is obd0 jdm(cream plugs). common knowledge: 90-91 obd0 92-93 obd1. op, what obd is your car NOW. that is what distributor you need. if it has a ls distributor than 1: then one leg is cut to fit or 2: you dont have a b16.

Yes I know they made obd0 b16’s. That’s why I states gen2 above.
Mine is obd1, in an originally obd0 car. I ordered a gen1 and they shipped me an obd1 b16. Nice of them to give me another 10 hp for the same price.

I was responding to the comment of obd1 stuff being hard to find. Its not. The post I was responding to, indicated it was. Which is untrue.

true, but the fact is we need to know what obd the op is running to be able to tell him what he needs.

I was just responding to the statement about obd’s. If you look at post #3, he has obd0 wiring at the distributor. He tried an obd1 distributor, and the plugs and mounting was wrong. Mounting is not conclusive, as vtec/non-vtec are different. But the wiring plug is. He says the obd1 plug on the distributor did not fit. It is doubtful he has obd2.

If the op would tell us the color of the plugs, this thread would be over. Cream=obd0 Grey=obd1.

In regard to obd1 parts… yes that stuff is easy as hell to find, oem or aftermarket. But that’s not relevant here since I was talking about trying to find parts for your obd0 vtec engine… that’s a lot more troubling. If the part is specific to vtec engines (like the distributor or transmission parts) you’re going to have a hard time finding parts as there were NO b series vtec engines sold in USDM cars in 89-91. A very small number were sold in 92-93 and then some more in 94-95. Maybe what I wrote before was not clear.

how is it that people are still so ignorant on this obd topic? this stuff is as basic as it gets and has been covered, literally hundreds, probably thousands of times on THIS board alone. Not to mention all the writeups, website charts and diagrams…

  1. Please search - there’s a 99.5% chance your question has been asked, and answered before. These cars are almost 20yrs old, there are not many “new” problems or questions.
  2. Please do not make assumptions and then post - only post if you KNOW something (reading something once online does not constitute “knowing” something)
  3. If you know what you’re talking about, the above two points do not apply as you already know these things and are contributing to this board in a positive manner - Thank You.
