Im pretty sure that I am in need of a new clutch, but wanted to make sure. When the car is on, I cannot change gears, the clutch will not engage. But when the car is off, I can change gears all I want. Am I in need of a new clutch or is it something else?? Thanks.
Did this happen gradually or all of a sudden? Maybe the cable broke or something.
if the clutch pedal is pushed in all the way in and u can kinda move it back and forth with your hand then your cable clutch snapped.
It happened suddenly. But the clutch cable seems to still work.
I should clarify that with the car off AND clutch NOT engaged, I can go in and out of any gear. But with car on AND clutch engaged, I cannot do anything.
Pop the hood and have a friend pump the clutch while you watch the clutch lever on the transmission. The spring in the pedal might be providing enough resistance to make you think the cable is still working, but it really sounds like something’s not right with the cable. Either that or the fork thingie inside the bell housing broke, so hope it’s the cable.
Did you ever figure out what was wrong? I can shift into gear when the engine is off and turn it on and move it forward in 1st or backward when i start it in reverse. I cannot shift when the engine is on.
Check your shift linkage!
