Have any of you used the new mobil one that is suppose to last for 15000 miles worth of protection? I figured this would be a decent topic cause it just came out. I guess it’s suppose to be like the royal purple or something. I just decided to try it for one interval just to see what it’s got.
lets us know what results you get.
thats what i have in my car too!
We’ve discussed this new oil on oil chemestry forums and based on claims from Mobil, it should be good since it’s got more “SuperSyn” base stock and a more robust additive package.
The only way to really tell how good that oil is is to compare it against the old Mobil one though “Used Oil Analisys”.
I just changed the oil in my truck about 2 weeks ago and used it instead of the Castrol Syn. partial blend I usually put in. Also gonna put in in my car when i do the next oil change, which is using Mobil 1 right now ayways. I figure for a few more bucks, might as well use the better stuff. If you compare it to the cost of an engine, it’s well worth the extra protection. I still change the oil every 3K though.
well all I know is that it’s riding smooth. It rides smoother when you change the oil anyways. Well see how this so called 15000 mile of protection holds up. I usually change mine about 4-5000 and check it at 3. I try not to push it to 5 unless I have to, but I’ll ck this at 3 and see how it looks. I always thought the additives in the oil breakdown after a # of miles no matter what kind of oil u use. More super syn??? I guess it’s suppose to be better with more additives, but not necessarily. I was wondering if anyone uses this or that royal purple?
i just put this in too…well see about getting close to 10k but i think thats really pushing it. i drive on the highway about 80 miles a day and the old mobil 1 started to get pretty bad around 5k…
i had a friend that used royal purple in his g3…its good stuff but how do you tell when its time to change it?
one thing that no one here has mentioned is the oil filter. i think you might need one that can go to 15k miles. and the only one i know that can is the wix filters. and then fram has that one that can go to 7,500 miles. but i think that the filter needs to last that long also :hmm:
i use the k&n oil filter… it seems to last pretty long and i use it with the royal purple oil
im using the 7000 extended gaurd fram
I also use the k&n filter for the long intervals. Hows that royal purple? I thought about trying some of that out.
I looked into that 15000 mile oil. on the back of it it has a warning saying not guaranteed if used for racing, towing or hauling, dusty or dirty conditions and excessive idle. Just thought it was funny cause no where in America can you find a place that doesn’t have diry conditions or a place where you won’t idle for long periods of time ie: rush hour traffic or what have you.
I use the mobile 1 filters. All 3 fram filters are at the bottom of the charts with Penzoil.
awhere did you find the chart for that?
saw it on here somewhere. you can probably do a search on google and find one.
the royal purple stuff is actually pretty good. i felt a difference from the castro oil i was using. i mean its like 5 bucks a bottle but i tihnk its worth it. i use to also use the fram filter and i tried the k&n filter once and i never went back.
Do you guys realize that Champion Labs makes the K&N filter as well as the Mobil-1 filter and the much less expensive STP and Bosch filters?
I’m not saying that the K&N filter uses the exact same media as the STP filter, but what I am saying is that if you guys are following the 3,000 mile OCI (oil change intervals), you’re wasting your money.
The tests that I’ve seen that involve the K&N filter show that it does flow better than most of the other filters out there. It also shows that it filters just about as well as the less expensive filters.
I’ll continue to use the top rated off-the-shelf filter, the Purolator Pure One.
so your saying that its just as good? i never really researched it. hummm i’ll check this out.
I’m saying that if you change your oil every 3,000 like most people do, buying a $10+ K&N is a waste of money when a Purolator Pure One will do the job at half the price.
FYI, I use 7,500 mile OCI
where can i buy this oil from and what is the actual name for it?Is it just mobil1?
