hey guys first of all merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone. a week ago i decided to make a gift to myself and upgrade my audio system. i took out my old subs and amps and i bought 2 12’ kenwood kfc-w3012 subwoofers in a sealed box and 2 kenwood kac-8014d amplifiers. the amps are rated at 500w rms each at 2 ohms and 1000w max each and the subs are rated at 20-400w rms at 4 ohm and 1200w max each. im planing on powering each sub with one amplifier and running them off a 1.5 farad capacitor and of course all the proper wiring. my question is this setup a safe way to hook them up. the other way to hook them up is the subs into 4 ohms in the amp which is rated at 300w rms each. thanks for your help
You said you got two subs in a box, is that correct?
If so, are the subs in their own chambers. [airspace]?
If not, driving them with two amps is not a good idea, matching the output of the amps will be very difficult.
I would return the two amps for a 1x800 -1000 watts RMS into 2 ohms mono block sub amp, wire the two subs in parallel for a 2 ohm load. 94
yes they are two subs in one box, each with their own chamber.
Then you can get away with using the two amps to drive the two subs, although you are still underpowered so you will have to be carefull not to over-drive the amps into clipping, a clipping amp will damage the subs VC. 94
