Well, I know this is going to sound stupid but here it goes. I just replaced 2 of my tires (replaced the rears and put them on the front and put the front on the back) with Falken Ziex 512’s and I noticed something strange. I was driving my car to work last night and when I get on the freeway I punch it to get up to freeway speeds and my car “growled” louder than before. It only does this above 5k. It sounds like an echo kinda. I was thinking maybe with new tires I get more traction and better acceleration and that is why it is growling louder but I am still concerned that this might be a problem. I have a stock motor with 235,700 miles and the only mod is an AEM SRI. Any suggestions on what this could be?
drive it for a little longer, if that noise is still there, it might be a wheel bearing. did they inspect the front end when they replaced and rotated the tires? if not, have it inspected.
No it is definately not a wheel bearing. The noise is coming from the intake but it is louder than normal.
I think it might be the valves. I am low on oil, but I have been lower than it is now, and what I just don’t understand is whit would start making this noise after new tires. It sounds like Vtec is kicking in at 5k but I don’t have Vtec. That is the best way I could describe it.
How about you switch the rears to the front again and see if it might be the tread design.
I really don’t think it is the tires now. I drove it more and it sounds like the valves. Kinda like metal rubbing together but not bad like a grinding noise. I am going to get the valves adjusted and see what happens.
Well I think I finally figured out what the problem is. I was driving home form work this morning and was going on this interchange from the 10 fwy to the 215 fwy and was doing about 85 because this truck was trying to pass me and all the sudden the car jumped slightly and all the power was there. It was running real slow (felt like I was driving my old civic LOL) and now it accelerates just like it did before it messed up. I think that the timing has something to do with it. Maybe the tensioner came loose and then tightened again. I am going to the mechanic today and have it looked at.
