Hello G2IC!

My name is Zach and I’m from central Florida. I just recently picked up my first Acura Integra ever. This for me is one of the less expensive cars on my dream list so it’s nice to finally cross that one off. I had an opportunity a few years ago to buy a very clean 93, but I fell short of what the guy wanted, I think $3,800.

So, anyway. Here’s my red Integra I snagged for $3,050.

She’s a red '91. Stock B18A1. Has all the basic bolt-ons including a cracked Neuspeed header. Tein coilovers and some really, really ugly rims. Up for sale on Craigslist in Orlando: Simmons FR-17s. (That’s my shameless plug).

Anyway, it’s far from perfect. It continues to run rough, fouling out the plug on cylinder 1. It bogs down until about 3,000 RPMs, and smokes like I’m spraying for mosquitoes. Just a tad bit embarrassing. I don’t know really what direction I want to take her, but it will probably be NA. I don’t have any huge power goals or a desire to take her to the track.

I need to figure out if I need new oil rings or valve seals or what, hoping this new daily driver doesn’t break my bank. Otherwise my wife will kill me.

Thanks for reading and I hope to find G2IC as warm and inviting as it appears.

Best Regards,

Zach

man with those engine issues you got took for 3k…

Fortunately you found this site & trust me there are gurus here that will help you get those engine issues figured out and resolved

Welcome to G2IC bud

yea i wanted to say that but u already did lol…down here one with engine issues goes for under 2k…and one with a blown motor under 1k…but i live in a stupid cheap ass city

Thanks guys. I have mixed feelings about whether or not I got a great deal. He was the original owner.

It came with a nice stereo system. (Although my RE Audio SEX10 hits so much harder compared to the installed JL), everything works for the most part, even cruise control. The engine is dressed up and there’s a really thorough paint job on it. Not just a spray and pray job. Guy actually did all of the door jams, seals, behind the lights, etc. Not your typical Macco $200 paint job.

It came with the 91 and 92 font ends paint in the candy apple red.

Short shifter, upgraded clutch, coil overs, rear sway bar and strut bars, full exhaust, etc.

The wheels have an unknown MSRP (it says call for price on Simmons’ website), but I think they’ll sell for $1,000 since they’re a true two piece and I have seen them going for $1,800-$2,400.

So I mean with all of this stuff already “done” to it, I feel like I got a good deal. Then she starts smoking and I’m thinking…ehh now I have to do a rebuild or a swap. Integras go for quite a bit in central Florida. I was going to pick up a DC2 about a year ago, and when I went to see the car I laughed in the guys face for how much he wanted for it. It was rude, I’ll admit, but he was asking way too much for what he had. Anyway, thanks for the welcome.

Best regards,
Zach

Thought I’d post a shot of the engine bay. Looked great to me.

I wish my engine bay looked half as clean as that!

definitely looks like some money was spent of aftermarket stuff… very clean for sure… LIke Bryan said tho , and even out here in cali you do not see these go for more than 3k if they have any issues likely 2k or less no matter what aftermarket goodies ya got, or how clean the body is etc. etc.

That said the huge upside to G2 tegs is that you can find a complete motor cheaper than it cost to get a blown one fixed, you can fid a new transmission under the same sort of circumstances.

and most importantly G2’s are SUPER easy to wrench on  you are in the right place to get help with diagnosis and self repair if you are good with a wrench.

Welcome!

Thanks for the encouragement. My ultimate end goal is to do a B18C5 swap in her. Maybe around tax season if the money is there, if not I will continue to save to make the dream possible. Like I said in my first post, I am going to go NA with a fully built motor (thinking probably all Skunk2 parts), as FI from second-hand experience has a lot of headaches. So for now I am contemplating how long I have left with the B18A1, until things go completely south and I have to park her. I’m hoping that she lasts quite a while. I may or may not have a shop do the swap depending on how much time off with school and work I can get when that day finally comes. I think I’ll probably need a solid week or two to do the swap by myself. I am pretty cautious about having a shop to the swap because it is a Honda, it is a $4,000 motor, and I don’t really know of any reputable (non-thieving) places.

I work at a shop (Pepboys counter guy, I don’t turn wrenches every day) so I know how much things cost, how long they’ll take to fix, and all that. I am really good at researching and troubleshooting as well. But our shop doesn’t do swaps if it’s outside of the OEM motor that came with the vehicle, just too many variables for us to handle.

I have and always will love Integras and my next one will probably be a Gen 3 or 4 or maybe both eventually.

Again, thanks all for the welcome and the strong encouragement. Makes me feel up and up about the whole situation, despite how rough it may seem.

Oh and my friend I have done one photo shoot and plan on doing another on the west coast (of Florida) in the near future. I’ll post pictures from the last one we did and the future one either here or in another thread. Aside from the motor issues it really is a clean Integra. I’ll be taking her to a car show on Saturday to show her off.

You should relocate your fuse box next to the ECU. Cleans up the bay a lot. Also, not sure if Florida has emissions, but if they don’t then start ripping shit out haha

Where should I relocate it to?

No, luckily Florida does not have any emissions tests except for Hillsborough county. What should I rip out?

Welcome! Very clean bay for sure. Sucks it doesn’t run as good as it looks.

And I just have to LOL at the manifold sticker on the strut bar.

Don’t trip on the engine man. I’m sure even in Florida you can find a good replacement for crazy cheap. Hell find a replacement, build it, then swap it.

:wtf: is that crap? Someone tell Neil we got spammers LOL

Spammers! get the ban stick!

I did a search for the fuse box relocation, way too much work for me right now. I’m gonna head to Honda Heaven this weekend and see what they have B18A/Bs going for. And I’ll probably pick up a few interior pieces that are broken like the driver side A/C vent and window switch. It’ll only put the passenger side window down, but not put it up.

if you can’t end up finding a switch I’ve got one for sale…just saying. haha

I got a silly switch that does the same thing in mine. races stubbs to AZ to get an available working switch

hey hey i’ve got a switch too so you both can have one…

the car looks pretty clean, not sure i’d of paid more than 2k for it with a cracked header and engine issues. the bay is a little over the top for me never was a fan of colored wire loom and the hose covers as well. over all not a bad start.

if you want to go with a c5 theres gonna be some work involved best bet is to convert the car to obd1 so you have some tuning options, easiest way is to look into a custom harnesses. they aren’t cheap but save lots of headaches.

welcome and good luck with your build

Yeah it takes a little time. I took out my charcoal canister and all the vacuum lines on the firewall

Well the going price at Honda Heaven for door switches is $10. If you can beat that price, then heck yeah I’ll pick one up from you. (Or LownSlowDa9).

I have read via JSpecAuto’s website (Honda/Acura Swap Guide) that in order to do a C5 swap into the DA that all I will need is engine, ECU, and an OBD0-to-OBD1 conversion harness. It didn’t mention anything like engine mounts, axles, or flywheel adapters etc. I assume this is really all I need to do the swap plus the time/money. Correct me if that site is wrong. (PLEASE!)

Do I really need the charcoal canister? How else will my gas tank vent excess pressures?

Turns out the show I was going to go to tomorrow morning was canceled and has been rescheduled for October 26th. This will give me enough time to get my leaking tail lights fixed and swap out my front turn signal lights with amber ones.

I’m probably going to end up buying a nonfouler for the spark plug on cylinder 1 to keep me from fouling the plug out so quickly. This will be the third time I’ve changed it out in two weeks. It feels like it’s running on 3 cylinders until about 3,000 RPMS and then it smooths out. The smoking is still there sadly.

More Eye Candy

I thought I would share with you guys some more eye candy of my DA. Despite the fact she’s sucking oil and blowing smoke I really am falling for her. She’s such a great car.

The fish eye shots were done by my coworker Nate, the rest were done with my cellphone.

I don’t really like this one:

This is a random DA I saw in the parking lot by my job. I have no idea who the owner is, I hope they don’t mind me posting their ride!
