Hi guys, i checked out this teg w/b16. took it for a test drive and for some reason everytime i shift it into third(around 3500 - 5000) or even in reverse it seems to be making a slight grinding sound. Someone said that it could be synchros. Does anyone know as to how much that would cost to get fixed. The guy said he changed the clutch. also would it be a smart choice to buy a car that already has a b16 and has been through a few owners. Any honest comments to help not get screwed over would be greatly appreciated…thanks
hmm dont know about the price on fixing the syncros but i have the same problem too. i just dont shift to 3rd at high rpms. dont really matter if it been through so many owners. just to a check on the vin to see if anything was reported down. just make sure its in good condition or have a mech look at it. mine been through a couple of owners too. all it needed was a new battery and a minor repair. also changed tires (didnt have money to change the rim with it). but just check the car in and out.
never buy a modded car imo
either way when buying a used car have it checked out thoroughly. take it to a shop and have a compression and leakdown test done. this will test for leaks and indicate any internal engine problems. may cost around 100. if they dont let you have it tested, dont buy it. just leave.
#1- be very careful and check everything. i personally would bring a jack, a toolkit and a flashlight. take your time. be annoyingly detailed. start the car in the morning, dont let them warm it up. good luck
