No crank, no start

Hello G2IC, having some issues with my 91 RS. ive been through the ringer with it and it still wont start. ive replaced the starter, main relay and ignition switch and i get nothing when i turn the key. all the dash lights come on like there supposed to the CEL light come on then off, but when i try to get her going nothing happens, ive run out of ideas and need some help

try bypassing the clutch switch momentarily. if it is a 5spd

How would i go about that? my only other idea at this point is this “starter relay” i keep hearing about or just getting real used to pushing it

the switch is up above the clutch pedal. there are 342343434424444 write ups on how to bypass it. check your grounds, specifically transmission and thermostat. your starter relay is attached to the right side (facing the dash) of the hvac box. it is a REALLY stupid spot for it, because it looks like it is part of the hvac system. will the car crank if you jump the two terminals on the starter?

unfortunately I cant try jumping the starter one of the previous owners hacked up the starter signal wire and rewired something to make it work, its been working like that since ive owned it. ive gone ahead and checked all the volts with a meter and everything is coming back within parameters, but it still wont start. itll push start, just not key start .

jump starter terminal to battery terminal on starter with a 10g wire. see if it cranks

So I jumped the signal wire off my battery and it started cranking, then when I used my key it started 3 consecutive times. I left it alone for about 30 min and when i tried it again no dice when trying to start it with the key. So at this point im really lost, i guess i could rig a switch to do the starter jump from my batter or is that only a very short term solution that continued use of that method going to cause problems.

starter relay.

Alright, please let this be the last piece to the puzzle, i got it all pulled apart just need to get paid again so I can go buy one. And yes that was quite the PITA to get the little turd. but it gave me a chance to pull my crappy blower motor out and do a little cleaning. also i did give the car a couple key turns, the relay is a clicking

there are really only two possible issues, the starter relay and the clutch switch. go ahead and bypass the clutch switch (because free) before replacing anything else.

do i just depress the little nubby with my hand? I can feel it up near the top, i checked with a test light at the fuse and it gets power when the clutch is depressed and no power when its not

It could also be a poor negative power supply or loose connection.

if somebody “rigged something up” that’s the first place i’d be suspecting.
to do a starter bypass jump, all you need to do is jump the small starter solenoid wire to the large battery cable at the starter. just touch the wire briefly. and make sure it’s not in gear!!!

I have done this, the car will turn over and will star and stop when use the key, but if i leave it alone for anytime even 10 min, id have to jump the starter again

If you managed to get to the starter relay, the easiest way to bypass the clutch interlock switch is to use a splice connector on blue and black wire coming out of the starter relay plug. Use a new piece of wire into the splice with a ring connector on the end. Then there’s a few different places you can stick it under and bolt it down.

I did this last night and now the car starts with the key. Before there was some jank switch from the ECU all the way back into the car (random ign switch) then back out to the signal.

It’s worth a shot before you start tracing wires. It’s also not the best solution, but it’s a solution.

So I have an update. got the starter relay in and on first try was no dice. Gave the starter a jump and after that is was good for the day, but if its cold out ive been noticing ive had to jump the starter and last night I had to push it, the starter wouldnt jump at all.

when you say “jump the starter”, you mean bypass jump? if so, replace the starter

either that, or b+ cable, ground cable or any connections between. those are the only possibilities…if you were bypass jumping

Im pretty sure I got “lucky” and got a bad remaned one. Good thing for warranties.
