Hey guys, I just got this car a month ago and I can’t figure out why I get no heat when the car is stopped. The rad and the overflow are full, and the temp gauge is just below half. The car is a 1990 4 door RS if that helps. I am stumped here, mabey the T-stat? Where is the stat in these cars?
follow your lower radiator hose.

hey i might as well, i mean i’m already racist and all, i guess i’d fit right in. 
So what you are saying is folllow the lower rad hose. That is going to answer all my problems, some how I doubt it. All you answered was where to find the T-stat, witch I don’t think is the problem!! You boyz need to chill, talkin all this racist shit, you can either help me out or shut the fuck up…Hows that sound?
Ive had that problem too. Not sure what it is but I don’t think the thermostat has anything to do with it because the engine temperature doesn’t change. Does anyone have a solution for this???
Air in the system or a blown head gasket. If your car doesn’t overheat then probably the first.
The inlet hose to the heater core is right near the upper rad hose on the head. If you are losing heat at idle is because you aren’t having hot coolant going into your heater core.
Mine does this all the time… however i have a blown head gasket so no matter how much i top and bleed (every week) i end up getting air in the system and lose heat at idle.
Have to fix my blown hg but i got a b16a swap coming now

I always thought that was normal with almost any car!?! I thought since the motor isn’t giving off near as much heat at idle as it does when you are driving, the air isn’t going to be as hot and will feel cool/little warm at idle…
Could also simply be a worn out water pump… If the propellers are eaten up, it won’t be able to make the water travel in the whole cooling system thus not giving heat in the cabin.
That, or the heater core is plugged.
damn, now i have that problem. just noticed it today, im going to check my coolent tommorow for anything out of the ordinary.
damn it i knew there’s a problem with that heater thing…now ive gotta fix that… i was just planning and saving up to put some a/c on my 90 rs. so what is it really? blown head gasket or water pump?
Heater valve maybe? It regulates whether hot coolant enters the heater core or not. Just a thought. It is found on the firewall where the heater hose connects, there should be a cable found there that operates the valve. The valve could be partially open, not allowing enough hot coolant to enter the heater core while at low RPM conditions.

I’m having a similar issues with my car. I have a very minimal amount of heat coming into my car. When I let the car sit for a 5/10 minutes I’ll watch the temperature gauge go up and when I sit in the car I’ll notice a bit of warmth, however as soon as I start to drive, the temp. needle drops and I end up losing the warmth in my car. You figure that could be the water pump too and/or heater core is toast?

your problem is the thermostatis stuck open. when you drive, the coolant the has been cooled by the radiator is not being held back by the thermo stat causint the no heat. change it and you will be good
