no one willing to write B20 guide?

I know the VTEC swap guide was a big help…I research many things about doing B20x swap into g2’s, but its all spread apart. Anyone willing to compile a nice guide, for different years, into swapping these wonderful motors?

The B20 goes in pretty easy. Pretty much follow the VTEC swap guide minus the VTEC wiring (that will take care of the OBD conversion issues). The pins on the ECU don’t change and you will continue to use your LS ECU. If your B20 has the high intake manifold on it, you’ll have to swap on your LS manifold. It’s all pretty simple. Once you get the engine you’ll see how simple. E-mail me if you have any questions. I may write up a guide, but I’ve been busy as hell lately so don’t hold your breath ;).

The b20 is esentially the b18a/b and there really isn’t much to it. Everything should be straight forward and you just swap over your LS mani, exhaust mani, throttle body, distrib, and the driver side bracket from the b18 to the b20. Thats pretty much it. All wiring will be the same from what in your car now.

Simple.

Do what they said, reuse intake manifold, and distributor.

AND, 1. reuse the motor mount engine brace on the driver side, 2. reuse your old motor’s thermostat housing, and that’s pretty much it!

i noticed my b20b thermostat sensor(or whatever used to be there) is missing. guess im ok though.

nobody seems to ever say much about that thermosensor switch anomaly. my b18 had the switch at the back of the block and the b20 didn’t even have a spot for it there. When i had my ls mani on the b20, I used the ls thermostat housing and the b20 thermo cover (because that’s where the new thermosensor switch is).

Just had the cut the connector off the b20 wiring harness and splice it into my teg harness.

Now that i put the b20 intake mani back on (Don’t forget about the low rise b20 mani’s you guys - the g2 mani sucks), i had to put the b20 thermo housing back on, had to use b20 throttle body, extend the map sensor wires to plug into the map (now located on the crv tb), and presto, more low end tork. Now i need some top end.

I took pictures of my entire swap, but by the time i get to making my web site, i’ll forget the “how to” stuff.

If we said to use the b20s low rise manifold, it would require more work. Seriously, if you have a 92-93 manifold, the low rise one is very similiar.

I’m just planning on gettin the damn skunk2, i hate my manifold. It hinders breathing so much.

let me assure you that its far easier to use the low rise b20 mani, if it came with the engine. For one, its already installed; just extend the map sensor connector for the new location on the b20 throttle body. The vacuum tubes are simple plug and play - done.

To put your ls mani on you have to bother with removing it the b20 one, scraping the gasket, getting a new one, reinstalling, changing the thermostat housing for the old one (extra coolant nipple).

negatives for the ls mani (my 1990 one anyway)- cant’ use the 60mm b20 throttle body. The tb attached fast idle valve will hit the fast idle valve that is attached to the ls mani. You also lose a heavy 1/8" in intake runner diameter (vertically anyway). The ports will open up wildly when the air hits the head.

neg for the b20 mani- All i see is that the plenum isn’t as big. Worse for top end, but way better for low end. I can definately feel the improved low end with the b20 mani back on, the top end feels the same tho (small ls runners).

I’m not too familiar with the '92 ls mani, but i understand its the same. The '94 plus may be worth the swap, but, yes, the skunk2 mani is supposed to be the mod to get for the b20.

just for verification was there ever a b20 released with a cable tranny? I’m thinking no but not sure

B20’s come out of 4 wheel drives.

Ben

i’m pretty sure all honda tranny’s went hydraulic in the early mid '90s. However, as far as jdm b20s go they weren’t ALL from the CRV’s, there was an Orthia car (that had low rise mani’s) and also an sm-x wagon (van). I also understand that there were some 2 wheel drive crv’s over there.

I doubt any b20 tranny would be an easy and worthwhile swap, even if it were cable.
