No Power down low

Ok first to start here is what I got. B20z was orignally auto when swapped the car. Ran great plenty of low end power. I did a 5 spd swap at the same time I also installed block guard, arp head studs, new head with crower valvetrain, crower 402-2 buddy club cam gears. Felpro head gasket. Compression check good on all 4 cyl. It is dead down low. Car basically dies if try to take off. Unless Rev up alittle and drop it. Even when shift is dead until 3k then it runs like it should. Since then I converted to obd1 with chipped ecu. Currently on a stock tune. Timing marks Line up perfectly. Cam gears a set to 0 not adv or retarded. I have tried going both ways with them. Any input would be great.

If it were me, I would verify the spark timing with a timing light. If that was within spec, I would look for vacum leaks, followed by fuel pressure or injector problems.

you cant just swap out major engine parts like that and expect it to be the exact same when its all back together. swaping cams alone with alter the power curve. just because your using a chip that has a stock tune, I highly doubt its an exact copy of it, but more like a reasonable facsimile. sounds like solid parts where used so Spend the extra money get a real tune for your motor w/ your parts and im sure you will pick up some power down low and be much happier with it in general.

Why do people insist on running stock maps on even semi-built motors? Your car isn’t stock… Get it tuned so its running correctly.

Yep, fuck a chip, Neptune or Hondata is what to get. I’ve got around $500 (including install and buying a P61 ecu) into my Demon/Neptune and I couldn’t be happier! I don’t think I’d be able to stand making a new chip everytime I want to make a new tune, or simple change to bin

There are so many options open to us in the Honda world these days that there really is no reason to buy an eBay chip to run in our cars anymore. I dont know if its hard for people to get a hold of a dyno/tuner in most other areas or what, but there are like 5 people within an hour drive of me that can take care of my tuning needs.

But seriously…

Just to name a few programs that can be great in the right hands. Do some research about builders/tuners in your area, and put forth the effort to get your ride tuned. It is easily the best money you can spend on your build.

My bro had someone from Phearable make him a ‘custom map’ for his built b16… And while it ran pretty good, it wasn’t perfect. Phearable is a company out of Florida, and I live in Utah. They’re good at what they do, but they cant perfectly account for the change in elevation and make the perfect changes needed. He dyno’d 173whp on their map… after loading Neptune and having our tuner do some pulls on the dyno, not only did he make the power/torque curves smooth as possible, he squeezed 197whp out of a 81.5mm B16.

I mean, really, get your car tuned. End of story.

i would recheck the cam timing. even with those mods it shouldn’t be on the edge of stalling.

The 402s have some pretty big duration numbers… the over-lap could be causing the near-stall symptom. So yes, timing… but bottom line, it should be tuned
