My car did this today for the first time ever, and it did it three times. At lunch today I went to start the car and nothing happened, no electricity, nothing. I popped the hood, everything looked fine, then it cranked just fine. When I got ready to leave work, it did it again. I slammed the door two or three times to see if there was something loose that just wasn’t connecting good, but that didn’t fix it. I popped the hood, and again it cranked just fine. This time however, a mile down the road when I hit the brakes the car almost died; the clock and radio reset, and all the lights dimmed. But once the car warmed up, there were no problems. When I stopped somewhere and came back (car was still warm) the car cranked just fine.
My battery cables are snug, my belts are fine. I feel like there has to be some sort of loose wire coming right off the battery or alternator or something that is doing this…
Check the main relay. Mine wouldn’t start several times when it was cold and it ended up being the main relay. If it does it again try banging under the coin tray, that always worked for me untill I could get another one.
You said, “and nothing happened, no electricity, nothing.”.
If you are loosing all power it has nothing to do with the PGM-FI Main Relay, it is a connection problem of the main power or ground connections.
Start by removing the batt. and batt. “tray” to get access to the batt. to chassis/chassis to engine ground, remove it and clean both contact surfaces and reconnect, making sure bolt is snug, move on to the engine ground, remove/clean/reconnect.
Reinstall batt. and clean both the batt.terminals and the cable clamps and reconnect, move on to the power connections in the engine bay fuse box, remove any wire, [batt./alt.] and fuse, [main fuses] that is held in place with a Philips screw, clean all contact surfaces and reconnect, make sure screws are snug. 94
