I hate to do it but I want some opinions on a setup I’m thinking of going with. I’ve basically narrowed it down to purchasing a complete b16a1 swap. After that I’m not really sure. I want to use a VTEC block so it’s either the b16a or a b18c1, the latter has proved hard to find for a good price. So what to do with the b16 block? Obviously the b16 will be lacking in torque so I was considering having it sleeved and bored to 84mm. I’m going to assume before I start doing some complicated equations that this will give around 1.8L of displacement. If so, would that make it comparable to a b18c1 block? I was also considering using a b17a crank and rods figuring that would be good for another 0.1L giving around 1.9L of displacement. I’m not sure if that would be worth the money for just 0.1L though other than just to be different. Now I’m wondering if this is all worth it or if it would be smarter to just use a b18c1 block. I think a sleeved b16a block would cost about the same as a b18c block so…hence my dilemna. The b16 block might even be a little more expensive after sleeving but it will be a whole lot stronger.
If funds run short I will just use CTR pistons in the stock b16a1 block and use CTR valvetrain and cams. Heck I might keep this setup for a year and next summer swap out the block.
Any opinions or facts on anything I mentioned are greatly appreciated.
I don’t know why I didn’t think of this but what about using a Crower stroker kit to increase desplacement? Crower sells it for $2200. Kind of pricey though but it comes with rods and custom pistons to whatever CR I would want, basically everything for the bottom end. Sleeving will run $750 though plus shipping the block and more for boring and honing. And then I have to get custom pistons. Probably $1700-$1800 for that. Or I can just wait until I can locate a gsr block. Does anyone care to add anything to this? All I know is this is starting to get pretty expensive.
B16A
Resleeve to 84mm
Eagle Rods/11.5:1 JE Pistons
Balance/blueprint bottom end
ITR cams
ITR valvesprings
JDM 4-1 Header
2.5" exhaust
VAFC
Tuning…tuning…tuning…
You’ll get some pretty decent numbers with the above setup. It all depends on your budget. You can always go a bit more on the cams and valvetrain. Otherwise that setup is a great place to start building an nice and reliable all motor daily driver.

Thanks guys. I think I’m gonna do this setup for now. And probably get the cylinders bored and honed for .25 over CTR pistons. I’m just trying to keep this whole thing under $2500 for now and shooting for solid 14’s and a good road course car. (uh oh, maybe I need a big wing for that)
