Notching the front crossmember for the 4-1 header

The B16 install is getting closer and closer. I just sold my 94 GSR DC CC 4-2-1 header because I want stainless, and I was strongly considering a 4-1 design. I did a search and found talk of notching the crossmember and actually needing to remove it to pull the header on and off. I can see this being a problem if I needed to pull the trans or other major work. So my question is how much of the crossmember should be notched, just the lip or is it more invasive? Also, just to make sure I have it straight, would the entire lower crossmember have to be dropped to install or take it off? Any recommendations? Thanks again.

Ting,

Go through Dan’s (G2guru) imagestation account. He has plenty of pics of his notched crossmember to accomodate the DC JDM 4-1 header. Where you at Dan?

Leo,

Thanks, I looked at Dans imagestation account and found the crossmember pics, which is a lot less cutting than I thought. I still would like to know whether or not the whole crossmember has to be removed to take the header on and off if anyone knows.

By the way, I put the CTR cams in I bought from you and have the valves and everything adjusted. I should have it running by the end of memorial day weekend, I hope.

Thanks again,

Ting

Yes, the front crossmember does have to be removed when either installing or removing the header. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info Dan.h
