I bought an OBX lsd for my 93 gsr ys1 transmission. The installer put it in with stronger washers and bolts .Now I cant seem to get the axles to fit,it goes in but wont go all the way into the splines.Anybody have any issues like this?
no offense but if you’d done your research you’d have found the information you want. it’s a common problem. now your’re going to have to remove it and start over. if it is one of the first series it must have some slight machining done to allow axles to fit and not get stuck…
I installed an OBX LSD into my 92 YS1 LS trans. Didn’t have any problems with the axles not being able to be put in, or take them out. How far can you get the axle in?
btw- I also put stronger washers and bolts in mine.
I did my research ,It seems like its only the old ones had that problem. So I assumed that I would not have that problem.Unless I got some of the old stock ,which probably happened.

The axles go half way in and then they dont go in anymore.
can you get pictures? also take pictures if you can inside the lsd, like where you stick the axle in?
I have some pics ,Ill post them up later.
Did you make sure you are putting the “right” axle in the “right” side? The axles are different from driver to passenger sides. Half spline vs. full spline.
yea I did,I had someone else check it too.
You cant really tell from the pic ,but the axle will only go in a little bit
Dude are you O.K…looks like your finger got chewed up by the tranny.Just kiddin
lol
put your finger in there and see if there are any weird steps or something not right. You should have a longer chamfer on the outside of the splines and then a shorter chamfer on the inside… sort of like this: (outside smoother chamfer)/---------(inside shorter and more abrupt chamfer)
idk if you understand what i mean.
By just looking at that pic it appears the LSD was assembled wrong. The washers looks too close to the opening. Then again its hard to tell the depth from just this pic. Have you measured how deep that hole is yet?

Lol ,im lost
The transmission was pulled out from the car again today.I am taking it back to where I got the lsd installed. The washers are not to close to the outside from what I can see.It looks like its roughly 3-4" from the washer to the transmission case.
since you have the trans out… take the axle with you to the guy that installed it and show him that the axle does not want to go into the lsd.
Thats exactly what I did.
Did you find out if they put the lsd together wrong?
Its really simple to put it back together. Not sure why something like that would happen…
I dropped it of around 10pm at the guy’s house last night he looked at it while it was still on the car.He says look like it was machined wrong but he wont know for sure till he takes it apart.I’m just waiting to hear back from him now.
