odd bog between 2000-3000 rpm

a while ago, the distributor rotor came loose from the shaft and was causing my car to backfire. this also destroyed my cat. after putting in a different rotor (off of my obd0 vtec distributor) i now get an odd bog between 2000-and 3000 rpm. during this time, the engine will be at 2500 rpm, drop to 2000ish and shoot into about 3100 and be fine afterwards. it does this in light and moderate throttle. will not do it in full throttle.

i still need to hollow-out or replace the cat since there is a bunch of rattling going on in there. the car idles fine for the most part. i’ve noticed that my plugs have soot inside the jacket. the contact points are clean. i switched them at one point and it would do the same thing with the new ones.

what can it be? tps or something?? i have no idea

oh, btw, i have a 91 integra automatik.

TPS, look it up, use the search function.

yes, thanks for that…

A friend diagnosed the tps as being ok. idle is fine and full throttle is fine. anyhow, so far, i have cleaned out the throttle body with carb cleaner and a toothbrush, checked the spark plugs, and changed the distributor. Since changing the distributor, the problem has become more pronounced. I guess my old one was ok. I did notice that oil is leaking through one of the valve cover seals onto the spark plug. Maybe that’s causing some type of arcing?

any ideas???

Could be that but that valve cover gromet seal isnt costly.
Usually i would say if oil drips into the camber you’re only looking for trouble and more like smoke coming from the exhaust. I say it is the leaking oil into the valve cover spark plug hole is causingof your problem.

I used to wash my car just spraying down the engine. later on as it idle to dry like 20 mins idle. I drove off and get sorta same kinda thing u are getting and i was wondering what was the cause. I knew my car was dry so i was like wtf and so checked the plugs and to my seeing in every plug hole i see at least an oz of water. Suck the water out and do not remove spark plugs when doing so. Problem should usually go away when all dry or in a day or so.

i’ve been meaning to swap those gaskets out but nonoe of the parts stores ever carry them. I’ll try that later in the week and see what happens. Thanks for the input!

Thats strange no auto part carries those 4 gromet/seals to the valve cover? They are so cheap too but maybe they have to special order or the idiots dont know wat they searching for. I swear i always go to autozone or kragens for little stuff like these otherwise hust bros, even honda dealer if u have one closer than acura. they work

yea, i think i’ll end up going to an acura dealer.

I had this problem when I hosed down my engine a year ago lol.

I changed my oil and filter then problem resolved.

still can’t figure it out… hmmmmm

wow, it seems to be getting worse!

fix your cat and then see how it acts, it is pointless to try and fix a problem that can possibly be related to your catalytic converter, that could fix your problem and you could be chasing a ghost

the bog is the inginter in the dist. If you have a friend with a obd0 car swap the dist and see if it goes away. Its a common problem. there is away to test it aswhile. You mybe even able to swap it from the vtec dist aswhile.

i’ve checked the cat out and it is now completely empty. i assumed that it should not cause a problem (other than emissions) since people here run hollowed out cats without this happening to them. i also assumed that it wasn’t the o2 sensor since it also does it (to a smaller degree) when it is cold.

i swapped distributors with my vtec distributor and it does the same thing. how can i test the igniter? Thank you for responding, btw!

Enjoy! Has all the test for Dist.
