Odyssey PC680MJT

So my battery needs to be replaced and I figure I might as well cough up a few extra bucks and get an Odyssey. I’m looking to get it from Summit Racing along with the bracket they make for it (cheaper than JDMPassword’s) but they’re saying it won’t work for our year cars. Is this true? I’m looking at the PC680MJT since that’s what fits the bracket mount.

I shouldn’t have any issues, right? Am I going to need new terminals or can the stock ones hook right up? They have these terminals if ours won’t work. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ODY-3217-0006/

Any help would be appreciated.

It will work. the worst you maybe have to do it switch your terminals. But nothing a little shrink wrap, solder, and time cant do. Ive always been told buy a battery mostly based on weight and CCA’s. But ive never heard anything bad about these. So just ponder on it a while.

Here’s where I bought mine:

Just keep in mind that these batteries aren’t designed for cars and all the accessory draws (a/c, sound systems, etc) … so they will not last as long. Also, if you don’t drive your car regularly like me, you’ll need a trickle charger to prevent the battery from losing its charge.

The one you got isn’t the MJ one and I don’t think it would fit in that reallocation bracket I also linked.

I don’t run A/C and my sound system isn’t anything special, just aftermarket head unit and aftermarket speakers. When you say it doesn’t last long if you don’t drive the car regularly, can you give me a rough idea of how often regularly means. For now it’s my daily but come the snow it’s getting garaged. So if I were to start it at least once a week and let it run 30 mins it’ll be ok, or will the battery lose a charge faster than that.

Thanks.

you can run the 680 with no problems just dont run the radio to long with the car not running as it is a small battery . an if you start it once a week you will be fine with it staying charged. An you should know that you need a special charger to charge it if it goes dead i know i messed one up cuz i didnt have the special charge killed the battery. But you can just jump it if it dead with another car with no problem

Great thank you for that info. Where’d you get that black housing bracket, I’d prefer black vs. the aluminum one from Summit but I don’t want to pay 140 bucks at JDM Password.

Also in case it does go bad and I don’t jump it, can I bring the battery to an AutoZone and have them recharge it with the machine they use?

Coz

i painted mine but i got mine of ebay for like 15/20 bucks shipped …an no autozone cant charge them you need a charge that put out 13.4 to 13.7 volts that why you need the special one you can get info at there web site i think

IntegraC, you’ll notice that at the bottom of the webpage redlineintegra linked above there are other accessory type stuff you can buy. Including the post style terminals, a bare aluminum bracket and a black bracket.

You will need those post terminal adapters if you plan to run the stock style of battery cable. Or just cut that stuff off, add ring terminals and bolt directly to the battery.

I had originally planned on polishing the bracket for mine, so I ordered the bare one from portable power. It was pretty rough and I didn’t want to spend the time to polish it so I powder coated it to match all the brackets and what not I have in the bay.

Starting once a week will probably be OK. Mine sometimes goes months so I use a trickle charger all the time. You can get small ones made for motorcycles for under $50. I have a “Battery Tender Jr”. Mine died once because I stupidly left my dome light on (car sat like that for a LONG time, so it was as dead as can be). I used the old school battery charger my my father has had ever since I can remember. It took awhile to register since the battery was so dead, but it ended up working fine, just took a long time.

Here’s my PC680:

Nice setup Colin. Question though, if you were to get a jump let’s say, how would the cables hookup since you don’t have the SAE terminals? I like the look but just saying in case the battery dies and I’m away from my garage, etc.

Also was able to find a black braket mount for less than buying the brushed aluminum and painting it here. http://www.sepbatteries.com/HD680BPC-Odyssey-Accessory.aspx

Thanks guys, ordered the MJT (with the SAE terminals) and we’ll see how it works out.

That’s not something I’m really too worried about since it gets driven so little, and DA’s are extremely easy to bump start. Plus, I think it wouldn’t be too hard to attach cables to the wires I have on there. The connection won’t be extremely stable so you may even want someone holding them in place, but it should work just fine.

Those SAE terminals are hideous and, imo, ruin the look of getting the small battery, clean install and clean mounting bracket. My previous install was with an Optima which I only used the side mount terminals in a similar fashion to my Odyssey setup. The SAE terminals were still on top but unused and remained covered with the plastic caps which came on them. Stock terminal wiring is so ugly that I don’t even consider it an option any longer.

Bumping this up because I found a cheaper ‘slim’ battery and was told it’s the same battery Odyssey uses but the generic brand.

What do you guys think?

I’ve heard good things about the Deka. For me downside was the looks (my battery is out in the open so I wanted it to look good) and that there isn’t a pre-made bracket for it (that I know of). But I wouldn’t hesitate to use one.
