well I picked up a OEM car cover a few months ago for $25. Mint condition with the bag lock and all. Well I was wondering are they waterproof or not? Wondering because my other car is sittign outside and I figured why not use it ont that car instead of it just siting around. Well lmk guys thanxx
It’s not water proof, but it’s water resistant. I personally don’t like to have it on when it rains. The cover will get really wet and heavy, then drying it out is an issue, unless you can let it dry on the car. But then the dirt gets caked on and the cover sorta gets stuck to the car.
For me the cover was used to keep the sun off the car. I never worried about rain hurting the car, and when it’s raining the sun usually isn’t out, so I preferred to take the cover off when ever I thought it would rain.
You got an AMAZING deal on that car cover, I would keep it in as good of condition as possible. I had a used one (still very good condition) and after a couple years it basically disintegrated from being in the sun all day all year. I’m definitely not going to let that happen to the two I’ve acquired since, plus hopefully the car won’t need to be outside either (knocks on wood).
You have an excellent point there. I think im going to go ahead and take it off then. Ill just go and buy a cheap autozone one. I only want it to keep the sap and leaves out since its parked under a tree and cant get around it. The sap will prolly ruin the cover as well. Thanxx Colin.
Yeah, once you start using a cover you’ll begin to realize that now you not only have to keep the car clean but also try to keep the cover clean. Washing one of the covers sucks, you can have a dry cleaner do it but it’s pretty pricey. I’ve washed them in the bathtub before w/ laundry soap. But it’s a hassle.
I usually just hang it spread eagle on a fence and go to town with a sponge and soap. Then just shoot it with your hose while it’s still hung on the fence and just let it sun dry when done.
