Oil drain plug

hey guys,

i decided to change my drain plug to a magnetic plug, and some how my oil pan (drain plug hole) got stripped-or got widened… . you guys incounter anything like this before? well, now its kinda leaking tiny drops, what should i do? don’t wanna buy a whole new oil pan. plz helpppp… :argh:

Try some liquid gasket, on top of a brand new gasket, and torque it down pretty nice. Or you can re-thread the entire thing…

how do i re-thread it???

thanks alot

you will need a tap & die kit to rethread the drain plug hole. a cheepy kit will usually run about 20-30 bucks at a local parts store… or you could simply take it to a shop and have them do it for ya… might run ya a 10-15 buck tip to the guy under the car ya know ;)… its jus a tool that you screw into the hole and it will cut thru the metal and thus rethreading the hole. its very simple and would at the most take you 5 minutes to do. a good tap & die kit from snap-on tools will run about 250.00 :bored: only good if your gonna be using it often otherwise jus find an affordable kit from pep-boys er somewhere. also if you have enough debris in the engine to need a magnetic plug you should find out what the problem is.

neat trick to check out contaminents in the oil is when the oil is draining out of the pan during the service, catch some of the old oil with a piece of white paper, and then lay the paper flat and jus take a good look under some decent lighting and check for shavings/debris… HTH

thanks alot guys, i’ll try that

Another way to go is to get an oversized drain plug and put that in, it will automatically rethread, but it isn’t magnetic. I have one and it works great.
