oil in starter?

Hey, was wondering if there’s a gasket between the starter and the engine? I ask because I remembered when I tried replacing my starter, I couldn’t reach the bottom bolt with my tool and it was soo hard to reach from the passenger side with the wheel taken off. Therefore I took the starter apart from those very long screws that you see running across the starter. Took those two off and pulled it out. There was a bit of oil in it. Not like a puddle but you can tell it’s wet. I took apart the replacement starter and it’s dry. Put it in the car, screw it back on. Car starts. After 2 weeks it went dead again. I’m thinking oil got back in there. Think there’s such thing as a gasket?

so no one ever changed their complete starter and not notice something like a gasket?

The starter mounts on the tranny and there is no gasket for the starter. Maybe the main seal between the tranny and engine got messed up completely. Try degreasing your engine first and then check for leaks to make sure its not an external leak before you go thru all that work.
